June 05, 2003 - It was revealed in the latest issue of Wizard Magazine (Issue 142, July 2003) that the film formerly known as Resident Evil: Nemesis is now definitely in the production process. Renamed Resident Evil: Apocalypse, the feature film sequel will one again star Millia Jovovich as the half-naked zombie-killer Alice and Eric Mabius as Matt.

Joining the duo for the second installment will be three new companions ripped directly from the game; and while it may not come as a surprise to all of you, we were completely floored: Jill Valentine is going to be one of the movie's central characters!

The actress set to play Miss Valentine is still under negotiations (though we're going to go out on a limb and predict that either Famke Jensen or Alyson Hannigan will get the role ), and the identities of the other two game-related costars are still a mystery. Speculation is running wild, however, as industry experts are tossing around names like Chris Redfield to Albert Wesker like they were frisbees. Currently the movie is preparing to film and should debut in theaters in the middle of 2004 courtest of returning director Paul Anderson.

Though exact story details are unknown, the ending of the first film should be an indication as to what to expect(prepare for spoilers): Alice, Jill, and company find themselves alone and outnumbered as they fight off the massive undead population of Raccoon City. Don't be surprised if popular monsters like the Hunter or badass boss creature Nemesis make appearances as well.

Don't forget to check out IGN Filmforce for all the latest news and info on Resident Evil: Apocalypse as it becomes available. We can't wait!

Anyone who puts a big fat smilie after a sentence full of enthusiasm over seeing a half-naked bunch of computer game pixels needs to A: go take a cold shower, and B: get a life.

...Says the one who drooled over the thought of seeing the hero from FFX barechested... Better shut up now...

Anyway, RE:the movie pretty much SUCKED, I don't know how enthusiastic I can be about a possible sequel.

positives? ummm... how about I'm positive I won't waste my money to see it in the theatres like I did with the first one.

Milla Jovovich is a fine actress, but IMO she was not a good choice for the lead role in the first one and continuing with her as the lead in the sequel is a mistake from the get-go. I think Michelle Rodriguez as Raine was a much better casting decision, though I believe she should have been cast in the lead, with M.J. playing a supporting role as a nearly helpless amnesiac. Michelle Rodriguez fits the action heroine role well and I think it was a mistake to kill off her character.

Joining the duo for the second installment will be three new companions ripped directly from the game; and while it may not come as a surprise to all of you, we were completely floored: Jill Valentine is going to be one of the movie's central characters!

I think it is a total mistake to try and force characters created from whole cloth for the movie and characters from the games together. One or the other, but not both. All this will accomplish is convolution of the story without enough on screen time to adequately develop all the characters or advance the storyline.

The actress set to play Miss Valentine is still under negotiations (though we're going to go out on a limb and predict that either Famke Jensen or Alyson Hannigan will get the role ), and the identities of the other two game-related costars are still a mystery.

Famke Jansen and Alyson Hannigan are both fine actresses... and both are totally wrong to play the role of Jill Valentine. It sounds more like the prediction was pulled, kicking and screaming, out of some bodily orifice rather than plucked from a limb.

Paul Anderson did a very mediocre job with the first film and I have no reason to believe the next one will be any better under his direction. He utterly failed to capture the feeling of isolation and suspense of the games with the first movie.

I have no doubt we will see Nemesis considering the original title of the movie was Resident Evil: Nemesis. The Licker from the first movie was a bit disappointing for me because of its implementation. Rather than being a method for generating suspense it was used as a big dumb monster whose only resemblance to the Licker from the game was an extraordinarily long tongue.

Who would you like to star as Jill Valentine???

Personally, I don't think Jill Valentine should make an appearance in the movie. Alice didn't make an appearance in the game and considering how much the first movie was a departure from the games, I see no reason to include any of the characters from the games. However, if they insist on including characters from the games, then they need to drop the Alice character because she would be a redundant heroine.

The games generated suspense because there was a true sense of isolation being there was only one character. This is where the first movie utterly failed. It doesn't matter how many zombies and monsters you throw around, if there is a swat team armed with automatic weapons, that sense of isolation just isn't there. Not to mention the underground complex which could have been a great backdrop to provide a sense of isolation was poorly utilized. I blame that on the director.

I could go on, but I won't. Being a fan of the games, the first movie was a big disappointment for me and the sequel is shaping up to be even worse. Sorry I couldn't be more positive.
