Resident Evil 4 and Killer 7 video (Famitsu Wave DVD)

london-boy

There was actually a store doing GameCubes on special offer for £50 a month ago, online as well. But they sold out pretty quickly and went back up to £70. I found the deal in the bargain forums at thedvdforums.com. I also found an offer for WaveBirds for £9.99 with free delivery on the same forum yesterday (again sold out very quickly). Even more incredible is that I found an offer there for GBA-SP.. £35 each!! So keep your eye's on that forum and you might find that you can afford a GC and even more PS2 stuff as well.. and maybe a GBA for good measure :)

Stuff that fell of the truck eh? :)

Heh, nah all of the deals were from big sites/stores actually. The £35 GBA-SP was from GAME's offer of the day. They reduce the price of something drastically for one day, they do it pretty randomly I think. The £50 GC was from a big high street retailer (can't remember which one) and the Wave Birds were from Play.com (there a pretty excellent outfit IMO).

The bargain forum at thedvdforums.com is just a place for people to post bargains that they've found. You can always get fantastic deals there. Recently someone posted a link for some Radeon 9800XT 256MB cards for £88.99!!!! It was a total misprice of course but was from a site that are known to honour their mis-prices.. and they did this time as well :)

A 9800XT 256MB for £88.99 is a super steal !!!

A £50 GC is also one. I bought my GC at US$190, and a GB Player at US$50, and the GBA-SP at US$100. Heh !

LB, get yourself a GC and enjoy the games with a Wavebird.

Yeah, GC rules ... got me my second one, ltd platinum that is. NTSC, packed with step-down converter for €149 within Europe. Bring on the love :D

Otherwise everyone would play it in fpvm. KCEJ should give a serious thought to creating a FPS game with MGS2 engine.
Doesn't make the game much easier, IMO - just less cinematic and cool looking. Try playing some of the FPS VR missions in the Substance - they can get hard as nails.

Heh, reading this topic makes it clear that everyone has their particular niche of graphical effects that wow them, while others barely leave a mark. Some like realistic lighting, others like smooth animation.. its like with girls really :D

Anyway, the game looks very nice IMO. The polygons are plentiful and the textures are fairly sharp. I said a while back that I thought that the GC could handle the basic core of Half Life 2 (ie, just the geometry and physics, stripped of most shaders) and that is pretty much what this game is! The span and detail of locales, the incredible particle system, the believable ragdolling (very similar looking to HL2's imo) and the apparently advanced AI all attest to this. I am however disappointed with the lack accurate realtime shadowing though, since most of the shadows seem placed by the artist, and also I think that they should have used at least a few key surface shaders for some things.. so I think that Capcom could do better still (and maybe they will before release, although I doubt it).

As for the animation.. it may not be very "smooth" (Leon's) but I think that is mostly for responsive character movements. Most of the creature animations though are far and away ahead of almost all games these days with their realism and detail. Just look at the "ogre" for a demonstration of this: you can *see* his muscular bulk shift with every step as his massive belly flexes and his jaw slavers. Incredible!

I think that many people here are just getting a bit too jaded to not notice the good points and potential of this game along with the flaws ;-)

Actually Teasy, the lighting system hasn't even been finalized yet. (according to Kobayashi) I expect the shadow implementation in its finality to be quite good. (as in all previous original GC REs) I agree about the creature animation, the sea creature & ogres' in particular are some of the best I've ever seen. The townspeople, to be inhuman, move & animate quite well also. The texturing & variety of townsfolk is also impressive. We've seen only parts of one level, where primarily every house can be explored. I can't wait to see the other locales, as well as the secondary playable character.

That was Bohdy's comment you replied to, not mine. But I agree with everything you said anyway :)

> but the animation is still a bit robotic

I can't agree with that at all. While the animation may be stylistically different from the cartoonish Ninja Gaiden that doesn't mean it's bad. Clearly they're going for a different, more realistic look. What particularly impressed me in the trailer was how varied the animation seemed to be.

> the boat ride in the trailer controls like Mario Kart.

But than again, who am I to argue with someone who's played the game?

GameCat:

> Essentially it looks like vertex lighting with blob shadows or simple
> projector shadows

In other words, the same as the previous version. The character shadows are dynamic btw. Just heavily blurred and highly transparent as you would expect them to be on a cloudy day.

> Lighting has very little contrast in the day scenes and looks a bit too flat
> for my taste.

I know exactly what you mean! I was just looking out the window and thinking what crappy gfx mother nature has.

> ... but the graphics look much worse now than they did in the earlier
> trailers.

It's technically much the same... just with much longer draw distance. Impressive stuff.

You talk like we are seeing a different trailer, ha ha ! I don't think that animation is particular good, just average action game quality. I mean the movements. Not every movement in the trailer has good animation, some cut scenes are pretty good, but the gameplay is only about the same quality as the previous GC Bio Hazard games.

Attention to detail is another issue and I think the attention to detail is amazing. I have said I have particularly been impressed by the destruction of the wooden door with the shotgun.

Ninja Gaiden is brought up because of the super fluid "Gameplay" animation.

I post my own feelings on the game. For sure I haven't played it. Have you played it ? :D

I post like that not because of it is on GameCube, I love my Cube, and so do my PS2 (the only one that I don't love is the X-BOX), but I am not blinded by the love of the machines.

I'm not so sure about this at all. While the shadow casted by Leon in that early mansion trailer was pretty umpressive projected / soft edge, in this new trailer, character shadows are sometimes completely missing or other times they look pretty much like soft blobs that even clip with the ground on ocasion. I was looking, but I couldn't see anything dynamic about them. Still, I guess stuff like shadows are often added later in the development and this must be some very early build of a new game.

I don´t mean to troll or anything, but since all of your GCN MGS claims turned out to be made of thin air, I don´t think anyone should believe you on this.

Has anyone noticed that the bucket that one of the villagers is carrying at the beginning of the trailer (when Leon looks through his binoculars) spills the water when it's moved?

Has anyone seen the 297 meg version of this video?

That 297 MBytes VOB file was extracted from Famitsu Wave DVD by jonnyram at Gaming-Age forum.

The RE4 part is around 130MBytes, the Killer 7 part is around 110MBytes. The rest is for Panic Maker.

I have seen it as I have the original Famitsu Wave DVD.

Comparing gameplay animation from NG to RE is dumb. Why not compare NG to DMC? What's the point of having a ninja in an RE game?

You don't do flips and jumps or rolls during gameplay in RE, it ain't Tomb Raider... ;)

Do you have a problem with comprehension ?!! Animation quality can be compared, I was not comparing gameplay. And I haven't mentioned jumping and flipping.

RE4's animation quality is average, period. And animation has never been good for any RE games. I might be nitpicking, but uping the graphics but leaving the animation like usual is leaving something to be desired.

Hopefully it will be smoothly animated in RE5.

No I don't have a problem with reading comprehension, but you might...

gameplay animation

I you want to compare gameplay animation, MGS would be the closest.

Does the ninjas in NG use laser guided pistols? Please provide animation examples to backup your claims.

In NG, Ryu doesn't walk, run, attack and defend ?

And in NG, the enemies don't walk, run and attack ?

Does gameplay only mean the attack to you ?

Is comparing the ones that exist in both a problem to you ?

And BTW, to use your words for yourself, does Leon hang himself up on a tree to hide himself or need to catch a crocodile to make a cover for himself ?

There should be nothing else worth discussing with you on my comparison of animation for NG and RE4. It is my opinion that the animation is average.

Just what I'd expect. Nothing to backup your claims, just hot air. In a game like Soul Calibur you also wal, run, attack, and defend. Why not compare that to RE? Hell let's use Mario Kart as an example LMAO. I wasn't aware Mario Kart was a water based boat game...

While we're at it let's compare RE to a flight simulator.
