Render resolutions of 6th gen consoles - PS2 couldn't render more than 224 lines? *spawn

Well I read all 7 pages of this thread... just for a quick summary for myself:

I think it is clear that PS2 could render internally and output externally more than 240 lines of vertical resolution.

And so far, I have seen no proof that it was limited to 448 lines and then only upscaling it.


Or did I miss anything?
 
Would you even notice the difference of 448 lines compared to 480 lines on a CRT?

I mean it is basically the same image, but 16 pixels on top and bottom are left blank.
Which is only 6% less, so not a big deal.

And those 16 lines would perhaps not be seen due to TV overscan, I could imagine?

I still use a CRT for gaming and the answer is a yes and no.

Yes you see the extra detail, but unlike a modern fixed pixel display you don't lose any sharpness from dropping to 480 lines so the drop isn't as noticeable as it be in a modern game on a modern display.
