*ren* PSN Down, Customer Info Compromised

Back up in rest of Europe! Smooth sailing, trophies synced.

I have updated the firmware and tried to connect through the various accounts that I have. Regardless of region that I have set each account I am never been prompted to change my password.
I only get the message that tells me that PSN is under maintenance.
What is going on??

uh? Isn´t it obvious that they were NOT on top of things. And isn´t obvious that is a good part of why they didn´t provide information sooner? They did not know what the f... was going on.

I recall plenty of times where shit hit the fan in my little part of the world abd just on that small scale it´s always fantastic to be clever.. afterwards.

I have this delorean i could make a few million if i were to borrow it to sony, so please return it to me as soon as you are done with it.

You're taking what I said out of context. That argument is against the idea that withholding information was a good idea. I've already covered your response in the proper context before, so I'll just quote myself.

It took 6 days from the time of this intrusion for Sony to give any indication that personal data was compromised. This is not acceptable. Whether that delay was a result of the design of the system, incompetence on the part of their staff, the lack of in-house personnel capable of dealing with the attack or the corporate policies in place informing them how they needed to handle this situation is irrelevant. It is still a failure and they (and anyone else) need to do better than that.

Where are you based?

Is your home region up yet? Maybe that is the determining factor instead of the region the account is set up for.

PS Store is still down so don't worry about that but Sony appears to be bringing up regions but locking them to IP's. So if your home region doesn't have PSN back up yet you won't be able to log on with an account from another region. Probably did this to keep from all their servers being hammered when they started bringing them up in the US. Thereby keeping Europeans and wherever else that had US accounts from logging in hammering the US servers while they waited for their regions to come on line.

I'm not sure related to countries that never had but countries that have it once their home market is up and the other markets that they have accounts for are up it seems to work fine. Japan is still down due the government not allowing them to bring it back up yet. Other places are having intermittent issues due to server load but as far as I am aware all but Japan/Asia markets are up.

I'm not able to log in to us.playstation.com/PSN

I am getting the "under maintenance" message in English and Japanese. I created the account when I was living in Kansas, but I am now in Guam. I wonder if that is the reason I can't log in.

Is this going to change so I can use my accounts again???

I would expect so. Unsupported countries are probably just a lower priority. I'd be surprised if the changes they made to the system would actually effectively block unsupported countries from accessing the network since I'm not sure that any of the console manufacturers would turn away customers who have already purchased one of their systems.

Ok, so we are down to they should have "said something", which they did. But just not what you or many others wanted to hear.

I just did a reset on my US account, so something else is acting up for you.

I was able to reset my password from the website and remove my cc info. All in all, pretty painless.

Which website ? I need to do that too as my ps3 ain't online these days. I am thinking of getting a new one for my work place where I have net. But I need to remove my CC info, if I left it there. pls provide a link.

I wouldn't say smooth sailing. After the inital easy access and password cahnge for me, later in the day I could log on and was told there was maintenance. Still, we'll get there in the end.

Interestingly I also took off my CC details, althugh I'm not sure why. They're theoretically as safe there as anywhere. It's not like I've removed them from Amazon or the like. But I guess I'm doing my typical, "wait to see how this thing runs fo rthe first few months to see if Sony have made any mistakes." May see about getting a PSN card code instead. Better value anyhow.

My accounts are unrelated to where I am based and that country is not supported by PS Store last time I have checked. Does this mean I ll never be able to use them again??

It does. As of now your IP needs to be activated for you to access the PSN. Sony are doing it by country, so you have to be in a country that has access returned.

If you are in the UK and want to access your US account you can do that, but if you are in Japan and you want to access your US account you can't do it because Japanese IPs haven't been given access.

If we're going to be reductive, it would be more accurate to say that I believe that they should have both had access to more information and chosen to share it more quickly then they did.

US PSN site (before it went back into maintenance mode) but keep in mind that IP restrictions from the past week+ or so are still in place.

Which is very hard to disagree on. But from what we know there is a good and valid explanation on why they didn´t.
