RE4 scans in High Quality

Actually... important point I just noticed:

I hope something was lost in translation, because the implication is that only the HDTV output is in widescreen, and the ordinary output is 4:3 with letterboxing. Given that the PAL cubes don't do HDTV (unless I've missed something) that would be a really bad idea. I hope that (as with most titles) the 16:9 display is anamorphic, and selectable regardless of the video output mode...

Looking back I really wish I'd bought an import cube instead of this crappy european one. Is there any way to coerce a euro-cube to output a sensible resolution?

In order to activate progressive-scan (480p) output, turn the console off, hold down the controller’s B button, and then turn the console back on. Answer “Yesâ€￾ when the prompt asks, “Would you like to display in progressive-scan mode?â€￾ After you do this once, all games that support progressive-scan video will be shown that way. Booting PAL software in this manner, you'll get a 50/60Hz option. Not all NTSC games feature progressive-scan and not all PAL games feature 50/60Hz select ... those options are included into the games and not into the GC's firmware. So it should be possible to boot a NTSC game on a PAL GC via FreeLoader in order to get progressive-scan with a component-cable. This is the theory, unfortunately I was never able to test it myself. Anyway, I would suggest to get a NTSC GC ... your PAL PSU will work with the NTSC GC too and there wouldn't be any FreeLoader hassle.

The next film to be released is 4min. in length & is coming later on this month. IGN as well as others will have it. A rough Famitsu translation:

Famitsu translation from Xeonininja81 from the IGN GCNGB:

my translation from korean website, which translated this interview with the producer Kobayasi from Nintendo Dream magazine

enemies are not limited to humans some may look like humans but they're neither humans or zombies.

their secrets will be revealed during the course of the play

enemies will talk to each other (though not in english)

the version announced at 20002 was scrapped/changed, and the version announced at 2003 E3 was also scrapped/changed. there was another complete reset

some engines developed prior to the changes remained in the final version, but the materials and scenario are completely new.

reason for the changes is that "full polygon change" wasnt being used before. now it's possilbe after shinji has become the director

shinji mikami is writing the new scenario

since the scenario is completely changed, umbrella is not in the game.

funness/gameplay is focused more than the horror part. believes that for horror, RE remake is scarier.

wanted to reach GC's limit once again

in RE3's bonus mode, it is explained that Leon became an agent after RE2's events

RE/Biohazard 5 is not planned. Since RE4 is a fresh start, it all depends RE4's results.

2004 winter isnt too late

Sounding a lot better than it would have been, that's for sure. ^_^

Still, I tend to not get more than rental value out of these types of titles...

What type of titles do you mean? If you mean Res Evil/Silent Hill type then I don't think that applies to Res Evil 4. It looks like it will be very different when compared to those games.

Damn. o_O

I think it's more that you will be able to do more things in RE4, which I believe is a good decision. RE wasn't so scary IMO.

The Resident Evils, Silent Hills, Fatal Frames, Eternal Darkness, etc. I'll pick them up when they're cheap enough (~$20-ish), but they all don't really offer supreme replay value or anything. The only "very different" of them so far (and I'm not talking style--which differs a lot between them--but overall gameplay feel) was Dead Aim, and though RE4 is looking good, I don't in the slightest think it's going to be that different. ;)

I want to make something clear.. when they say "umbrella is gone as are the zombies", they are not talking about the entire game, that is the plot that begins this game.. Umbrella has disapeared, the zombies have disapeared.. it's been said in interviews they will be part of the game, but its supposed to be a suprise.

The artistic direction in this is very nice. It uses that orange gloom of dusk, giving the forboding sense that time is running out before the darkness of night falls. And with the surreal 'world-gone-mad' presence of the villagers, that town is cast in an unnervingly desolate light.

Translation of the pictures thanks to the same cool dude.. yclee008

LEFT COLUMN
-Pic 1,2: Leon was told by the the US president to save her daughter. He went to a small village in Europe to gathering more information. However, those villagers were not only unfriendly to Leon, they seemed unafraid of being killed........coz they didn't halt after being shot by Leon.....are they......

-Pic 3-5: Using 3D Maps allowed Leon to move freely without scene loading. Also, aiming will be fully manual, similar like 1st-person shooting.

-Pic 6-9: Enemies are not mindless anymore. They can use weapons and respond faster than zombies.

[ACTION BUTTON SYSTEM]
MIDDLE COLUMN:
-Pic 1,2: Use of binoculars. After approaching the village, you'll find a line saying "look" at the bottom of the screen. Press the "A" button the use bionoculars and "C" to zoom.

-Pic 3: Break into the house through windows. Besides from the original "open the door" way of entry, Leon can now gain entry by pressing the "A" button near windows.

-Pic 4: Jumping from a height. In order to escape from enemies quickly, jumping from the roof with the "A" button is inevitable.....

-Pic 5: Setting ladders. If enemies can set-up ladders, so can you. Simply approach the ladder and press "A". But if the ladder is not properly positioned, you'll fall and need to re-position it before climbing.

RIGHT COLUMN:
-Pic 1: Jump out from windows by pressing "A" near window. When there's not way to escape, jump out from the 2/F is always an option.

-Pic 2: Trip down enemies. Though the conditions for using this "action" is still unknown, but at least this can buy time to escape and save ammo.

-Pic 3: Push off ladder. Another way to buy time is to push off ladders set-up by enemies using the "A" button.
