Radeon 8500 Maxx ??

I see tweaktown released a pic ;) of a dual chip Radeon powered card. The pic looks genuine to me, does anyone with a good eye for fakes want to take a guess at this one ??

What about the traces though around the GPU, whoever did it spent alot of time touching up the traces :p

Plus of course this in latest Radeon 8500 drivers...

"RADEON RV250" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4966"
"RADEON RV250 SECONDARY" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_496E"

Ooh, very very fake. The first thing that tips me off is that the blades on both the fans are in exactly the same position. The perspective on the more distant fan seems off too. Looks like someone using the transform tool in Photoshop.

Nice try tho' :D

Have a close look on the left fan wire: it's not only blurier than the right one but doesn't cast a shadow like the other one.

With the risk of sounding like the chaps denying any human landings on the moon, isn't it odd that the right heatsink casts a much shorter shadow than the left? It wouldn't be totally out of question if the card was illuminated by a flash at short range, but the capacitors in the upper left corner indicate parallel light.

Anyhow, I sort of enjoy fakes. You get to play detective and feel a bit Weibullian, both reasonably nice activities a rainy thursday morning.

The AGP bridge on the 8500 A-I-W DV is very close to the AGP strip (much like a singe R200 chip is on a normal board) I would epxect this to be the same for a 'MAXX' card.

Standard 8500 shot...

Interesting the notes Tweaktown Administrator left about the websites that got the email:

The following sites were also sent the news...

Huh.....

The large capacitor under the right hand chip has no shadow either.

The fans also have only original radeon stickers on them, looks to me like someone made this ages ago to set off rumours about a radeon 256 MAXX and someones just reused that.

The white ATI print over the right chip just looks stuck on and a couple of the capacitors below look 'flat'.

Oooh, can i play ?

Let's see, The Left fan header is nearly flat.
You should be able to see some traces under the ATI logo, but don't.
The Right HSF is throwing off blobby shadows.
And many Various shadows are missing.

Hey Doomtrooper the two pics of the Radeon 8500's you posted are just about identical.

Looks like the guy who faked that pic used your standard Radeon Pic to do it with.

It is a very impressive fake though. Wish I had that much PS skill.
