PSP Video

Big improvement over that last Death Jr. showing, but why aren't the graphics packing in noticeable increases in detail from FSAA? There aren't that many pixels to draw...

Hehe, even Death Jr appears nicer now, has some nice shadows and animation going on.

There aren't that many pixels to draw...
Not that many, but just enough to make for the difference between PSP and PS2 graphics capabilities... and I guess they'd rather make games that resemble PS2 visuals than 'waste' fillrate on FSAA, that doesn't even matter that much on a screen that small.

I can only begin to imagine how good 2D games will look and play on this......

And... Did i see someone who vaguely looked like Snake (it was dark) in a fraction of a second worth of footage?

When PSP gets some original titles worth playing, then i will consider buying it..... I have a PS2, don't need to play the same games again... And so far, there's not much there apart from Ps2 ports...

You saw MGS:ACID and it looks like they are gonne rerelease some titles while others are getting a makeover.

Even the frogger looked pretty nice, detailed, with nice animation and colors. Hell, even that scene with balls looked prety damn nice, with all the overlapping shadows.

I didn't want to interrupt the eternal debate over why the Dreamcast is nomore, but figured I'd post these pictures and Natoma won't mind ;)

Those are awesome pictures. I've said it before, the PSP is one sexy beast. Those too blinded by anti-Sony bias seem to have trouble seeing that the appeal for the PSP should go beyond the usual sector of gamers.

N-GAGE tried roughly the same thing and it's less successful than the Jaguar was.

Although granted, N-GAGE tried to be everything else with a game system on the side, while PSP is a game system with everything else on the side... but still, it's a valid comparison.

What you just granted is the reason why the two cannot really be compared the way you just did.

N-Gage did not try the same thing, by your own admission, and the implementation of the idea Nokia had with the N-Gage was far from optimal: from the pricing, to the way you inserted game cartridges, the side-talking, etc...

You can compare anything under a certain light: hey, they are all "things", any console is a physical body in space.

If I shoot two arrows and I turn the bow just a tiny fraction of an angle to the right before shooting the second arrow, you will see that the second arrow will have landed quite far from the other ( both arrows had the same strength appliead to them by the bow ).

Sure you can always find products that try to cram too many features but I don't think the NGage - PSP comparison is valid simply because the NGage did NOTHING right. It didn't have any games that distinguished it from the competition (the PSP will) and it was a pain to use a phone (it's primary function).

Meanwhile the PSP will likely have great games and not withstanding battery life, it should play them well (WiFi built in!). Moreover it could show video fairly well AND be a decent albeit HUGE MP3 player. I'm sure other features for it are already under development (web browser? OTA TV?) which would only further strengthen its position.

This isn't to say that I guarantee its success mind you (the public is fickle after all) but that your comparison of the NGage (which btw I openly laughed at when I saw the booth before the opening day of last year's E3) is not accurate.

Because I love you all.....
