PS5 Pro *spawn

Quite interesting that the CPU will only max out at 3.85GHz. I trust Sony knows what they're doing. This system will be seamless for developers to utilize.
I think it's as straightforward as this being, pretty much, a GPU upgrade with a 6nm>5nm "free" frequency bump for the CPU.

It'll give Sony years of data to determine where the bottlenecks are when it comes to designing the PS6.
 
I do wonder when they will announce it now. I believe PS4 Pro was announced in September of its launch year.

The verge just released more details on what will be required for games to get the PS5 pro enhanced label. Essentially:
  • If a game was running at 1440p on the base and its pushed to 4K on the pro it qualifies as an enhanced game.
  • Simply adding Ray Tracing effects without changing resolution or frame rates qualifies as a PS5 pro enhanced game
  • Increasing fps from 30 to 60 qualifies as an enhanced game
  • There will be an ultra boost mode for games to take advantage of the newer hardware regardless of developer input. But this will only be noticeable on games that dont have fixed resolution and graphical settings.
  • Devs can still utilize PSSR on the pro even without updating the SDK but generally its recommended to update to the newer SDK to take advantage of all the other pro features.

Not sure why you left out that games can simply use a higher DRS range. Any game with DRS is essentially already qualified.
 
So effectively like our previous generations. Recompile is required to allow the title full access to the hardware. Otherwise it’s just a clock speed gain, which may not be much of a gain at all.

Well, no. They are predicting some games would double their framerate, they never said anything similar on PS4 Pro. And about Ultra boost mode they are actually claiming it will be noticeable in games with DRS.

Interesting. 1440p to 4k is over twice the pixels. Wouldn't the Pro need to be twice as powerful as the PS5 to be able to do this? I thought it was only 45% more powerful?

Not necessarily. That's talking about a fixed resolution mode. So say for example TLOUP2. It runs at a fixed 1440p in performance mode. That doesn't mean there isn't more overhead on the PS5 to scale above that.. just that they didn't since it's fixed. So if the PS5 Pro bumps it up to 2160p, then it's "Enhanced" because it raised the maximum resolution of the mode.

Basically,

Fixed Res/FPS modes:
If fixed res of game is improved = Enhanced
If fixed framerate of game is improved = Enhanced

Variable Res/FPS modes:
If target res/fps aren't increased over base PS5 and just typically higher = Not Enhanced
If target res/fps are increased over base PS5 and typically higher = Enhanced

RT modes:
If res/fps is the same, but game targets more RT effects = Enhanced

No, I’m implying it’s important to read the whole article.

A recompile is required to take advantage of the hardware.

This is all very familiar from our mid Gen and next gen compatibility limitations when concerning backwards compatibility.

Ie: it is very likely that the 5pro is indeed locking out CUs for BC still.
 
The ultraboost must run at higher clocks with less CUs.. Well it kinda has to if the Pro with full CUs is clocked lower than standard PS5. Ultraboost implies the difference could be bigger than was with PS4

Sony didn't strike the other videos on ps5 pro on rgt's channel or on any other channel, just that.
They just had to leave it there, or at most flood the news with contrasting rumors to add white noise. BarbaraStrainsanding they confirmed that it contained the correct info.

Then that's even dumber... like what the hell Sony lawyers, I get you're just dumb attack dogs, but this appears to be incredibly targeted dumbness. Even if the specs are somehow incorrect you just made everyone believe they are regardless.
