PS4 will use a A10 APU?

2013 tech is on par with 2005? Not a highly surprising.

Technically, but not practically. Intel CPUs cost more than a whole console should be.

Where do they cost more? When you go buy one from the shop, or when you're Sony / MS out shopping for a few good mln units?

Because Intel can sell as much as they can make, as I understand it, they don't need to cut their prices to sell in bulk to Sony or MS. It'd potentially be a loss of income. This of course depends entirely on Intel's production lines which I know nothing about.

But also regards the comparison, Cell at the same production node as Sandybridge or Haswell would be tiny and extremely low power, so it still maintains the performance/cost edge significantly. That doesn't mean it's a good choice, but the claim to fame of Cell in its peak performance remains, simply because no-one else has tried that same approach as they think it sucks. ;)
