PS3 security secrets

Nice one, thx.
"When running, the operating system uses up 64MB of the GDDR3, leaving 192MB for games and applications. (32MB are also taken from the GDDR3 video memory). It seems possible to increase this size, as the current OS takes a smaller 80MB total footprint (XDR and GDDR3)."

Do you mean increasing an available memory for games or.......never mind. I read it two times, yes you mean a memory for games. No prob.

"If downloading games from the Playstation Network, they are packaged in a large .pkg file. When you install they are basically expanded and dumped into the /game directory of the harddrive in its own folder......There is a limit of 4GB per file on the harddrive."

Maybe this 4GB and a single .pkg limit is a reason I get an warning once: There is an uninstalled game, you must first install it before downloading a new one. I indeed had quite many pending demos and deleting few allowed me to download a new demo.

thanks

Thanks for the inputs, I think I got all of them fixed on the page. As for the GameOS footprint, I think it is a moving target with each firmware. Unless someone state and confirm the minimum reserved memory from the xdr or gddr3 on current and later games.

RSX speed

Question, you have RSX clocked at 550 MHZ but I read threads here all the time where it is repeated all the time that RSX is 500 MHZ... Which is it, I have never read anything confirming the down grade in the speed but it is pretty much accepted that it was by some. If my memory serves me all the official 2005 documents pointed to 550MHZ not that it matters but just curious why you have it clocked at 550MHZ.

In regards to security...some things are better left alone.

The last thing we should do for any console, is create a security leak leading to another Dreamcast.

It is 500MHz, but read this thread for greater discussion on this point:
