[PS3] Resistance 3 [SPOILER ALERT - Contains R2 story discussion]

Debated with Kittonwy (again !) in the XMB chatroom. So the R3 trailers show a lot of firing from gunsight. Is the hipfiring accuracy gimped like R2 ?

Also a little disappointed by the hold-the-ball-and-run gameplay. Should let us handle our gun. Capelli should be able to carry the power core in a backpack.

Thats just one part of the campaign ! I can understand its for variety and pacing ! He was shooting Chimera and sending them on Merry-go-round rides with that ionic cannon thingamajig :D ! The game will be awesome patsu. I am sure Capelli will drop the ball and fight that mutated Widowmaker by the end of this level :p ! As for ADS, yes we cannot know how accurate hip firing is, but the way the mini fighting arenas seem to be set up, I am sure they are expecting us to circle strafe around those Chimeras !

Absolutely ! That level is absolutely amazing ! People are missing out/ignoring a very very promising game here :p !

Just think about it: We saw HAVEN, which was chaotic and frantic, then we saw the BOAT, which was serene and kinda on-rails, then we see this !!! Look at the damn character this game is ooozing all along ! :devilish:
 
I agree with Renegade, the new level looks pretty awesome and the style reminds me a lot of R1 and a bit of Battle LA. The graphics may not be BF3 but the game looks interesting.

Yeah.... but they can increase the replay value by letting us decide when and how to fight the monster. Leave the cutscene magic to others. R3 should be a gamers' game. :(

I'll dial back and assume it's going to be a KZ3-like movie FPS instead of an oldschool RFOM-like experience.

I disagree. In every game, old school or new, your are led up to a boss fight and never allowed to decide on your own whether u want to fight it at the beginning or the end. They are building up the crescendo to reach a climax where it you v/s the boss ! Yes, I understand replayability being hampered, but then we haven't seen the whole gameplay, maybe, you do have to drop it time and again to help with the shooting and pick it up again and proceed. That would be an interesting mechanic and will let you be the master of that decision.

As for movie like experience, well, every game is trying to do that after Uncharted 2 happened. Yes, it dilutes the whole fun, but its inevitable. Did you see the Gears 3 demo? It was all spectacle and no gameplay at all :( ! Its a reality we'll have to live thru, but I still see more old-school fun in R3 than in others.

Bu.. bu... but RFOM boss fights were mostly free-style combat compared to say... something like KZ3's MAWLR. :(

Sure hope we can put the core down and fight !

All I was saying was that in every game, even in RFOM, you fight a boss when the game wants you to fight a boss :) ! So, I am guessing the fight with boss must be at the end, they are just creating a buildup by showing it moving alongside you during the level.

The Gorilla fight shown in the Haven level was free style like RFOM, wasn't it ;) ? You and the boss in a limited arena. We'll have a similar arena for this Spider too, I guess. MAWLER is something too scripted to be a RFOM fight ! I don't think Insomniac will go that way , cos they went that way in R2 and failed spectacularly.

The junkyard one ? (coz it's one of my favorite KZ3 moments).

I just want Insomniac to give their AI more opportunities to shine. T_T

Sorry for the confusion, the HAVEN is the brown level of R3 shown earlier, where there's lotsa wind and CHimera drop ship drops enemies and , in the end, a big Kong kindof gorilla boss comes in ! Not in KZ3, but Resistance 3 :D !

The original RFOM will always remain one of my favorite games from this gen - the campaign and frenetic multiplayer were incredible for what they were... if people were still on it in any numbers, I'd still be playing it now. As a launch title, it really can't be topped.

The demo is a very old build that journalist were writing about months ago. The game has been polished quite a bit since then as evident by the Sony press conference.

Iv'e played a current build, it is amazing. Really takes me back to the original in terms of sheer fun. Graphics are also a huge leap above the first two games. You don't have to take my word for it.

The textures look really low res, I always thought R2 was a nice looking game. Maybe I need to go back and play, but so far R3 looks muddy to me.
 
Yeah I remember people complained about low res textures in an earlier trailer and demo. The Chimera had a terraforming facility near the town, and strong wind was blowing through the scene. I reckon it's the same demo ?
