[PS3] Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

The only portion of the trailer that I think used in game assets was the Lobax at the end.

That said, the game will still look better than every other platformer on the market. The art style really lends itself to the engine to achieve some great visuals.

That's quite the claim. We havnt seen what the competition (Rare) has up its sleeve.
But yes, I do expect it to look very nice when it ships. Q4B is still one of the best looking PS3 games. (and about 10x better looking than Resistance 2)

I only have the horribly compressed Gametrailers version of the trailer, but the one portion of that trailer that was conceivably "realtime" looked like a modest (and expected) upgrade over Q4B.
There are sections of the reveal that slowdown noticably, only explanation is that it's being run realtime. No one is stupid enough to have slow down in a pre-rendered video surely.

I can't quite shake the feeling that Insomniac is a hell of a lot more comfortable with the cartoony stuff than they are with realism. The R&C games are certainly amongst the most charming and appealing looking games I can think of, while the Resistance franchise always comes across as the soulless brainchild of way too many methodical focus testing sessions. Kinda like the franchise that puts the food on the table and allows them to do what they really like.

On second thought, maybe it's just me who is more comfortable with cartoony graphics.

Resistance is fine as a game. I have a feeling Insomniac bit more than they could chew in R2. It has 3 totally different game modes (campaign, competitive and cooperative), but only about 2 years in development.

If they focus their resources, they should be able to deliver an amazing game.

I think their art team went into R2 with the ``Ratchet`` mentality. The best looking 30 fps games have high quality shaders, something R2 lacked. (hence the multitude of complaints about it being a static, ugly game)
They can get away with lower quality shading in the Ratchet games because they run (for the most part) at 60 hertz, its fast, its cartoony and it bombards the player with an impressive amount of geometry and scripted chaos.

I agree, not to take anything away from R2, but for some reason, I always liked the graphics in RFOM better and found them much more appealing. R2, while no doubt more impressive, is way too saturated and colourful.

I'm really looking forward to R&C. It's not my dream platformer (more like a *cough* shooter *cough*), but since it's one of the only decent platformers left on the PS3, I'm looking quite forward to it. I really wish Naughty Dog would do another Jak & Daxter though. Nothing like Jak 2/3 though, but a naiv, colourful, nice Jak & Daxter with lots of adventuring, simple combat mechanics (not too shooter orientated) and genuine platforming challenges.

It's a shame this genre kind of died out and I'm not even sure why. :(

Fruit of the Doom for me.

They can keep the rest. ;-)

Shame it's a family game as that "shockwave inducer" would be far better as a bowelmovement inducer

About 2/5 into the video, you can see someone fighting together with Ratchet. Is he the white Wombat we saw earlier ?

Also, the level seems more open like Sargasso, the best level in the last R&C game.

Lombax you mean. I think he is.

I'm I the only one who didn't really like Sargasso? Not that I thought it was bad either. It's open design put the more interesting parts of the level further apart IMO.

:D Yes Lombax it is.

I think the Sagarsso world was fun because the enemies were tougher and huge due to the open landscape. The exploration was not tedious like a typical open world game (There was no skyscrappers blocking your view, and you can glide/fly anyway). The secret items were also hidden well (underneath dinosaur's feet, on their back, or stuffed inside mountain wall).

I love his smile when he said "a great experience that will blow people away." Looking forward to this!
