[PS3] Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Completed Ratchet & Clank yesterday and ended it with most weapons (all but 2) and 900'000 bolts spare - I could have used that money to buy the rest, but I thought I wait and see if better can be bought in soon time. :D

As for the game - this is a must buy. Awesome game. For some reason, I thought the previous games were a bit larger in scale (more planets and larger planets), but now, I'm not that sure if perhaps that's my memory playing tricks on me. The best thing this one has over the last games though is the R1 button to fire your weapon. Pressing Square on the PS2 while using both analog sticks to strive and move around just didn't work. The difficulty setting for a first run isn't bad - IMO just perfect. I minor challenge and not frustrating, so playing through is fairly easy and straightforward. You just want to keep going until you've seen it all. For all others looking for a good challenge, Challenge-Mode has it. I just started last night and it's not as easy as I thought it would be. Will have to see how much easier it gets when I get to try the new weapons on the more tough enemies. :)

I LOVE that bolt multiplier though. The longer you go without getting hurt by an enemy, the more multipliers you get for your bolts. This is going to make bolt hunting extremely fun, addictive and challenging! Can't wait! :)

Best game on the PS3 so far for me.

i haven't played Uncharted or CoD4 yet, but so far, R&C is the best game i've played on PS3 as well. i beat it 3 times it was so fun, and i even collected all the gold bolts and skill points. i probably put in over 30 hours into the game... lots of replay value.

Is it a lot better than the demo?

The demo was ok, but I can't see myself doing that for hours...

Mind, I haven't played any R&C before, so I really haven't got a clue. :)

i'd say its better than the demo. the demo really just shows you the basic combat elements of the game, but theres more to it than just blasting/smashing your way through enemies. there are some platforming and RPG elements to the game as well, and just little things that take you away from running around killing enemies (like the spaceship missions or the use of the sixaxis controls). what i liked most about the game was upgrading your weapons throughout. the game also uses the sixaxis controls the best out of any ps3 game released so far imo.

The demo is just the start of the game, introducing you to the controls etc.etc.

I have always been a big fan of R&C and I think it's back to it's best after the rather poor multiplayer focused detour that was Deadlocked/Gladiator.

Yes. I consider R&C a richer and more entertaining game than Resistance.
The demo doesn't do it justice.

Only just started playing today and I have to admit it's far more fun than I thought it would be. Also I agree that the demo didn't do it justice.

I finished it on challenge mode. Its not that much more difficult than normal if you collect all the holo-plans. This is my first Ratchet & Clank and its a lot of fun. I played demo's of the PS2 Ratchet & Clanks but i never really liked them, now i feel like i have been missing out.

Oh yeah, they should hvae stuck in the Predator Launcher and Nano Swarmers :)

DS

Maxed out Nano Swarmers are ridiculously powerful  Fusion bombs and some others are pretty powerful too. I'm in the prison level and quessing that I'm quite close to the end?

nano swarmers were my favorite. i tried to max that out first, but the rest of the weapons i tried to upgrade evenly. a good way to upgrade them is in the arena.

I used Nano Swarmers, Mr. Zurkon and Confuzzer Gas at the same time in the later levels. It was messy. ;-)

Mr Zurkon was great, I loved how he berated enemies for attacking you and taunted them generally. I would have liked the Agents of Doom back though - I used to love their evil cackle as they set about ripping the enemy a new one :)

You still have about 5 levels to go

Yup still one or two levels to go I quess... It is longer than I thought it would be, which is a pleasant surprise, I haven't really speedplayed through the levels though, but instead tried to look around a bit and hunt few golden bolts. It is a good game, but it has little bit more techical issues than what the R&C games had on PS2, namely the framerate drops quite often when there are lot's of stuff on screen. Cutscenes and screens with moving gadgets have strange hiccups quite often (maybe that's the XMB-settings thing?). I can't really say that those have bothered me that much, but Imsomniac still have stuff to improve for their next game.

Also in my opinion the graphics are par for the course, no more no less. On occasion there are moments or levels that I feel are very good looking, but the overall feeling is that graphically this game has not been able to break the "inflation curve" meaning that PS2 Ratched was more impressive at its time than what this is now. Despite all that I have enjoyed every minute of the game and I even like how the motion sensing is implemented in this game. hour or two to go and after that I have to take a short break in gaming, due to busy school schedule, so Mass Effect and Uncharted will likely have to wait until christmas...

i think the cutscenes are there for load times, which is why you see the odd hiccup (similar to HS).

imo, you can only do so much visually with a game like Ratchet if you want to retain the cartoony animated look. if you go back and play the older ratchet games, there is quite the improvement.

i'm very curious how Resistance 2 is going to look... thats got to be one of my most anticipated PS3 titles.

I just finished the game and was quite satisfied with it, I also might have exaggerated the frame rate thing, I mean it generally holds pretty well and at times there are really lot's of happening on the screen. It does get a bit more difficult towards the end, but the weapons are so powerful that it still is relatively easy game.

Good stuff.

Yap ! In my experiences, the slowdown usually happens during long and short cutscenes, probably in parallel with level loading. I don't remember seeing any during gameplay moments even when I deployed fire-n-forget weapons like Nano Swarmers, Mr. Zurko and the Tornado gun. Did you complete the 6-statue collection ? I think it's more fun than the golden bolt collection.
