Being that this thread is about PS3 OS/Interface check out this (new to me) video.

It shows off the web interface completly. It's about 3 minutes long.
Yeah tad bit old, heres the same video in a downloadable link.

I cant wait to see how the interface has updated/changed since e3. There was alot of disabled stuff that was mentioned but never really gone into detail. Hopefully we can see more of it before the system launches.

bumping an old thread again...I thought this was worth posting.

I receieved another PSP/Sony survey in the mail today.

One of the questions was if you have a Locationfree Player or not (I answered no), and I thought the next question was interesting.
What is your primary reason for not purchasing LocationFree?
-Need more information
-Too expensive
-Waiting to see if the PLAYSTATION®3 will act as a LocationFree device
-No ability to access a wireless hotspot
-Not aware of the LocationFree wireless service
-Not interested
-Other

Obviously I'm talking about the "Waiting to see if the PLAYSTATION®3 will act as a LocationFree device" line. Seems sony recognizes that people have heard the rumors, and maybe they have something in the works. The questions after begin to ask about tivo type features the psp can do with LocationFree.

for example..
"Prior to our email, did you know that you can view saved TV programs on your PSP system using TiVo’s TiVoToGo™ service?" then asking if you are using TivoToGo on your psp.

the next question of course was...
What is your primary reason for not using the TiVoToGo service for your PSP system?
-Don't know enough about it/need more information
-I don't have a TiVo DVR that supports TiVoToGo
-Ease of use/no wireless router setup
-Waiting to see if the PS3 will be able to transfer saved video to my PSP system
-Use a different service/method to watch video on my PSP system
-Lack of hard drive on PSP system
-Not aware of the TiVoToGo service
-Not interested
-Don't own a TiVo
And again I'm looking at the "Waiting to see if the PS3 will be able to transfer saved video to my PSP system" line. Very interesting stuff. It makes sense though, PS3 should be great at encoding videos for the psp w/ the cell processor.

Cant wait to see what they have planned.

Anyways, I just thought it was worth posting. :)

Well not sure if this means much but I just got a playstation undrground queastionaire about PSp and ability to link to Sony's LocationFree™ wireless service or TiVo's TiVoToGo but also in the questionaire was this.

Dont know if it means anything but they just might put in in there- dvr functionality that is.

No real indicator of DVR. When you download all those TV programmes/movies, you may want to broadcast them to TiVo devices, wheres DVR requires you to be able to record stuff from sources. Which is unlikely if PS3 doesn't have a video in of some sort.

Could be. But until one's announced, LocationFree/TiVoToGo != DVR

There is this standard for digital TV broadcast over wifi. Perhaps the PS3 will not only support sending this format, but will also receive it. If true, that could be a way, but of course there could also be all sorts of extensions. We're just going to have to wait and see, really.

ps3 menu in detail movie

With all that blue background space they got, they can afford to enlarge the text size for the sake of readability.

Besides, these menus are very boring. Jazz it up a bit, visually. Show there's a cell processor in the box...

lol dont worry bro, its just the dev kit interface. but you knew that, right? ;)
IIRC you'll be able to customize the backgrounds like the PSP, time to find some 720/1080p wallpapers. :p

Regarding this picture.

These were the settings for component output, correct?

I wonder if selecting HDMI output or VGA output would show different resolution options?
Since I don’t yet own a HDTV I’ve been thinking of connecting the PS3 to my PC monitor, a 19â€￾ TFT LCD 1280x1024 monitor with both DVI-I and VGA support.

If I get the 60GB model with HDMI, I should be able to use a HDMI-DVI-D cable to hook it up to the monitor, correct? I hope the PS3 OS allows an option to select 1280x1024 output but with letterboxes, so the viewed res is 1280x720 (so games wont have to be stretched).

I got a little worried when I saw the limited resolution options on that image. I’m not sure what my monitor would do if I were to select an 720p output.

I tried outputting 720p from my graphics card to the monitor (I selected "Theat it as a HDTV"). I wasn't very surprised when the image got stretched, it looked HORRIBLE.

So I really hope PS3 will allow me to select an 1280x1024 (letterboxed to 720p) resolution, so when all is said and done the screen only shows a 720p image, the extra res will just be black boarders.

I hope Sony has thought of this, after all they WILL allow PC monitors to be connected to the console as it comes with Linux.

If not.. I'm screwed. SDTV here i come!

Nice to see the real PS3 working and being shown in public. Pre-TGS announcements should be coming within a week or so. And I can't wait.
