PS3 OS/Interface

OK, nobody is mentioning this so:

http://psp-vault.com/Article698.psp

So GameWatch claims that everyting can be transfered to PSP [even games], but Famitsy is telling a little different story... What do you think?
Does anyone hear read Japanese? :)

And check the DLNA report for PSP. Will PSP/PS3 connectivity work like this?
It was already demonstrated earlier (E3?) where on an F1 game you could use the PSP as a side/rear view mirror.

So, at least the feature should be built in some games, but will you be able to throw any video signal from PS3 to PSP? That I'd like to have a confirmation.

Yes, with the 20GB PS3 the feature would not be useable out of the box, you'd need a (3rd party) USB WiFi adapter to enable WiFi in the cheapo model.

A couple members here do, hupfinsgack + one both do. Maybe they can confirm whats going on for the PS3->PSP remote function.

Sorry my brother is leaving the country for quite a while. So maybe I can look into later today otherwise tomorrow.

Strange article, especially given quotes like this:

It should be noted that because only the 60GB Playstation 3 model includes integrated WiFi, this function will apparently not be available on the 20GB model.
Couldn't I, just, oh I don't know, plug it into my router using a wired ethernet connection?

And how to you propose then broadcasting said data to your PSP? :p :D

Hopefully standard USB WiFI cards are supported, and the 20GB model does have the feature built in. That, or have the feature downloadable (like i-Pod support for the 360, or WMA playback on the PSP) for those Base Model owners who buy a wireless adapter.

Well, there is always a possibillity to conect PSP and PS3 via USB cable. But that is kinda retarded. Only if your big screen is not avaiable to you [somebody else is using it].

But, lets wait for translation...

My router broadcasts a wireless signal.

I couldn't even imagine playing my PS3 games on my PSP. That would be really really cool. Might not use it alot, but those bathroom breaks you know?

I did read the passages:

Famitsu:
"This connects PSP and PS3 and its seems that becomes possible to download PS3 content to the PSP."

Gamewatch:
"Remote play is a function which seems to stream PS3 images {Comment: this is meant in the most general sense} to the PSP via WiFi. It's possible on the superior model with the 60 GB HDD."

Both GameWatch and Famitsu are not sure what it really does. Both used used sentence structures which partially are assumptions. So I'd say it'd better to wait for confirmation before getting too excited.

Thanks for translation. Lots of speculation there, but all will be revealed at that October pressconf. Or maybe PSP/PS3 connectivity will be added at later date via firmwre update. Only time will tell...

It's an interface, an UI, it's not meant to be overly decorated and hard on the eye.
Personally, I find the xbox360 "Blade" interface very confusing. It's not the "Blades" themselves, but what's inside the blades. It's hard to get an "at a glance" view of what
s there and where the selection boxes are.
It's pretty and colourful, but the functionality could be better. THere is the advantage of an universal UI for all the games being he same though. With PS3, many online gaming functions that are in the "Blade" for xbox360, will be game specific and thus different for any game on PS3.
Is that a disadvantage though, it's much a matter of taste. Personally I like that the interface in game reflects the game world in design, instead of some generic design that takes you away from the feel of the game world. For example, if you'd go to an online store of some medieval rpg and were thrown to a futuristic chrome UI, it would take you away from a game, like a standout CGi FMV.

Something like this...

Under "Friends"
1. Block List (it's a little blurred)
2. Add Friend
3. Players whom you have played together before
4. Chat room
5. Message Box

thanks patsu. chat room is new to me, havent seen that before.

Gamesradar has posted 2 videos, the first one is the ps3 startup, and the second a funny size comparisson to 360, because gamesradar's media player sucks, yashaw from psnext was kind enough to provide some mirrors for downloading, so there you go.

Thanks slay. That XMB firmware definately has to be an older version, theres several icons that are different. They probably dont need the newest firmware to show off the core stuff, but it would be nice to see what an up to date menu is looking like differently. I wonder why the video cut the demonstration short, I was hopiing to hear more.

And that 2nd video is just weird lol.

If you're wondering about that beer-colored XMB background, it turns out the PS3's interface not only changes the color with the months (like the PSP) but the intensity of the color varies according to the time of day you power it on.
Thats kinda cool, reminds me of those old ps2 easter eggs. More blocks would show up the longer you had it IIRC.

maybe someone can translate some unknown info perhaps?

Well I don't read any Japanese at all, but what's new to me is the option to rip CDs to your PS3's HDD, with a choice of encoders (AAC, MP3, ATRAC) and bitrates (from I'm guessing 64 to 352). I also see a 1920x1080 MPEG2 movie on the HDD, and a BD-ROM inserted, and lots of BD and DVD sound and other preference settings.

What I'd really like to know though is what the final option is in the video settings below 1080p. What is that? Something to do with remote playback?
