smapty: The way the Xenon is built,. you can run a Word Processor to input your data

Ever hear of the term 'watermark'? X360 comes out a good amount of time before the PS3.

mckmas8808 said:Well the PS3 will have its own games 1st party games. I was think about games like HS. DeanoC said that they are going to add in the new multithreaded Havoks engine.

There's a reason I came out and called the machine lopsided, it was deved to take care of both CPU and GPU processes, but they couldent get the yields they wanted, so they tacked on a GPU.

I wouldn't know about Cell, but PS3 always had a GPU.Anyone remember when the Cell was supposed to be a self contained unit with no need for a GPU?
OpaOpa said:The X360 CPU wasnt deved from scratch to be a self contained unit.
OpaOpa said:The Cell couldent hit anywhere near the yeilds it was supposed to, so the plan changed about a year and a half ago. Sony signed a deal with Nvidia and the rest is history. 3 billion dollars and one huge demotion later Sony is trying to pick up the pieces._leech_ said:OpaOpa said:The X360 CPU wasnt deved from scratch to be a self contained unit.
What's that supposed to mean? :?
Well I agree to some extent. The PS3 does seem to have an unusual amount of repeated hw such as the function of SPE and the vertex shader inside the RSX.
The interface between RSX<->CELL is a bit of a curiosity as well. From what I can see, these inefficiencies only serve to make the unit more expensive though and this is Sony's problem to deal with.
Not any less powerful.
OpaOpa said:Again, to sum up, right now devs for the PS3 are going to have to try and get some REAL cpu power out of the SPE's, but again, it's pretty much like the Paintbrush/Word metaphor no matter how much elbow grease you put into it.
