PS3 Library Code in Linux Kernel

I was just leafing through the source for 3.0.2 and in the drivers folder there is an entry for the PS3.

There is code for a Logical Performance Monitor, System Manager, AV Settings Manager, and more. Have these always been in the kernel? Does this mean that Linux support on the PS3 is still continuing off radar?

Anybody got any ideas?

The last changes into the tree that aren't simple code cleanup were committed in summer 2009, and even those updates are best called sporadic. Looking back, there hasn't been much active work in the directory since 2007.

It's dead, Jim.

To elaborate: Once something enters the kernel tree, it rarely goes away. Build your kernel with all the legacy support, (and take away all the new stuff to slim it down :) ) and it'll run just fine on machines from the early 90's. There is little need for any official support for things after they work -- the community will generally fix things they break. The last sony employee I could find from that tree was from 2007, so I'd expect that sony support for the ps3 linux has indeed gone away. But of course, this doesn't mean that linux will ever stop working on the ps3, and if there is enough interest, volunteers might even write new features.
