Why can't Swedish launches be this sexistic?

Why can't Swedish launches be this sexistic?

at least people over there get poorer localisation of games than in sweden. most games released there are not in the language most people can understand ;) the obvious reason behind this is piracy.

The PS3 has, apparently, had a very successful launch in south korea.

Here

doesnt look hugely successful to me, they filled out problably 1/3 of the seats they had set with half of that not arriving until an hour before it went on sale, and i wonder how many of them were press.

I expected to click that and see a huge mob by your wording ;). In the end it looks about the same as the launches in most other Countries.

My bad, that's why I said apparently. I was just paraphrasing from the ps3fanboy write up about the launch.

looked more like 2/3 filled to me which isn't bad. regardless, the time people showed up or even the amount of people who showed up doesn't really tell how successful a launch is imo.

Which isn't bad? Huh..?

Compared to what?
Compared to other PS3 launches? I agree.
Compared to what was expected from the sucessor of PS2? It should have been a mob of people outside of the launch area trying to get in, thats how packet it should be.

It seems like everyday the PS3 does bad, it gets more and more accepted.

Heh heh... I think context is important here. Fafalada posted a similar thread in GAF:

It seems that PS2 and 360 launch in Korea did (much) worse.

Pardon me while I continue to gawk:

I might have found my PS3 Wallpaper when they add the feature in a future firmware update. :D

EDIT: I just remember Korea is the only country where iPod sold poorly. Here's a sample reference:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/08/10/apple-barely-a-contender-in-south-korean-mp3-player-market/

So PSP doing well there is actually a big deal. I was told they like multi-function devices (as opposed to American's single-purpose device preference). Hopefully when PS3 drops its price later in its lifecycle, it will enjoy at least the same success as PSP. Not sure how well it will sell given the current price (80Gb version + IPTV option).

See France. Lousy launch event, plenty of launch sales.

As Patsu explains well, the local market. If PS2 didn't do that well in Korea, there's no reason to think PS3 would show a desperate uptake based on a worldwide success.

about 1m ps2 are sold there with approx. attachment rate of 1.xx
which is good considering the console market is very small there.

Aside from the 80 GB hard drive, I think the Korean version already has IPTV software built-in to those units (confirmed).

Dunno how it works though (if it would function as a Set-top box or something).

I think people often think that due to their proximity to one another Korea and Japan have similar gaming habits; where Japan is the home of the console, Korea is essentially the anti-console (where PC gaming rules supreme instead).

Frankly this launch was pretty good for PS3 there.

BTW for some information on the sales there supposedly according to somewhere on the link to that website up above according to someone from GAF is the below information (hard to confirm though when you can't read Korean).

"Ruliweb sez 261 people bought ps3 there. Sony gave the first dude 5 games, and gave #2-8 one game each. First 300 (obviously couldn't fill that number) at the event gets free bluray movie, hdmi cable, and a t-shirt."

So wasn't exactly great but still not that bad considering Korea isn't really a large console community.

Re: IPTV in Korea

I don't know if the Korean PS3 actually ships with the IPTV software at the launch or it will be an update, but this I know about the IPTV in Korea.

The stupid thing about IPTV in Korea is that the laws prohibit transmitting "live" TV over Internet (probably to protect copyrights against Interent streaming). So, the only thing the "IPTV" in Korea allows is actually VOD. That is, being able to watch programs that have already aired. This is what HanaTV (the name of the Korean IPTV service provider, which also does the FTTH) does whom SCEK is working with to provide the functionality.

This is pretty lame, I know. I haven't heard about the lobbying effort by HanaTV to change the law... yet (I am sure they are trying). So, at the moment, this is quite different from what AT&T in the U.S. (U-Verse/Lightspeed) is doing.

Hong.
