PS3 in North America or even Europe first?

How big is the possibility for Sony to launch the PS3 in either North America or both North America and the EU first, and then Japan?
I know they have their tradition with the native country, Japan first, then the rest of the world, but this time around I think the chance to get the console overseas first is a lot bigger.

In an interview Kaz Hiras said:

"We will have to look at development and how things are coming along in terms of manufacture and all the other logistical things to determine which territory or multiple territories go first."

When it comes to how development is coming along, it seems to me at least, that SCEE has much coming (KZ, MotorStorm, Next Getaway etc). . . Do you get where I'm going?

I as a European, am quite mad at always (well, apart from a few exceptions) getting things last. Both hardware- (PSP-argh!) and software wise.

In adittion, Sony should know that Japan is no competition. Millions of Japs' will bye anything Sony anyway, so let's consentrate on where it counts.
North America, I think, will be the most risky territory this upcoming generation, with MS being an American Company and all.

North America first, then Europe and Japan seems most likely if such a decision goes thru.
But I'll still cross my fingers for Europe simultaneously with NA at least

Any thoughts?

:( Don't laugh, you're an European too! :devilish:
Yeah, I know, it's probably not gonna happen, but at least North America, do you think the chances are that minimal?

Scientists actually believe: incase of Europe getting Hardware first, the World will be sucked into itself, turned upside down, travel back in time and implode. Theres just no way we will survive this paradoxon.

why dont you be just happy you are one of the 15% on this earth who even can afford one?

It's because i'm in the UK (NOT Europe thank you) that i have to laugh. ;)

PS3 is a japanese product, it's the pride of Japan against the big bad American giant, and the japanese people will see it first.
North America might get it shortly after but it's going to be hard to get enough units out of the door to support a mega launch in 2 territories in a short period of time.
Europe will see it last. Because.

If they do decided to launch PS3 outside Japan first, I would bet my money on the US.

There are three posibility on my book:
US > Japan > Europe, Japan > US > Europe, or simultaneously.

Europe is the redheaded stepchild of global product launches.

Possible launch scenarios:

1) Spring 06: Japan; Fall 06: North America; Fall 06/Spring 07: Europe.
2) Spring 06: Japan, NA; Fall 06: Europe.
3) Spring 06: Global.

I think Godzilla will emerge out of the sea and assume the post of British minister of education before Sony launched a console in Europe ahead of Japan.

Yeah, but still in the EU aren't you :p
If they could just forget the Asian Pride for once. . . blah!

Godzilla would do a better job than whoever's in there at the moment.

Europe gets everything after Japan and the US, from TVs to movies to... stuff... PS3 ain't gonna change that one single bit.
It just doesn't make sense to change their release traditions.

As much as i'd love to put my hands on a PS3 in Spring 06, it just aint gonna happen.

Have to agree.
Heh, reminds me of when Kazunori Yamauchi was visiting Brittain in late 03 or something, yabling about UK getting GT4 before Japan and the US!!11

At least GT actually sells a lot more in Europe than any other territory.

Based on the [estimated] number people on earth, isn't 15% a hell of alot of people still? :p

Seriously though, what are the chances that sony will break their tradition?
While it would be nice for a territory other than Japan to get it first, I really doubt it. Still you never know, things can change I guess.

IMO, a major frenzy of shortages and 1 million sold units on launch day in Japan would make for quite a hype across to the other regions. Knowing that a product is about to launch soon and is already doing very well overseas only hypes up the product even more. Launching in Japan first would probably have this effect.

The European market is just as big as the Japanese market. Also, there are more Europeans than Americans. Last time i checked.

The US market makes more money for the console creators and publishers, despite us paying more money. Perhaps if they didn't sting the EU with inflated prices the EU would work out more prosperous for them?

Ok ok!! We're part of Europe as a territory but we're not Europe. We don't have the Euro and we don't feel European.
I'm Italian (though i've been here for-f**king-ever) and i don't even feel European.
