PS3: Call of Duty 3!

I have to agree, that I am curious about why so many WWII games. I can understand a phase that comes and goes, but it just seems like a continuous stream. I just think, "What can be so interesting to make yet another game in WWII? What is going to distinguish this game amongst the pile of other games on the exact same theme?" Why not set it in some other historic war? Couldn't hurt, just for history lesson benefit, imo.

Personally, I really dug that first MOH game on PS2. Then the MOH:Rising Sun came out so I picked that one up since I like the Europe one so much. Needless to say, I didn't finish the game out of lack of interest.

I guess it is inevitable that the theme is revisited every new console generation, though. However, it almost seems like a game genre, in of itself, regardless of console generation.

Well, in a few years, be prepared for a flood of Iraq games. Wars were lots of causalities occur, with quagmires, ambushes, raids and counterraids, make more interesting story fodder then a war like Desert Storm where few if any people were lucky to even fire their rifle. (oh, and pleases, let's NOT discuss Iraq or politics here. Just pointing out that drama requires wars where lots of people die and bad stuff happens, I doubt they'll be a game based around Grenada!

Yes, I remember a phase of Iraq titles earlier on last generation, which made a predicted fade-out. I wouldn't mind another phase for MiddleEast titles again. At least it comes and goes, so can still retain an aire of freshness. However, the WWII games are like a constant onslaught. I guess it is the goldstandard for war games, but I'd think it would have burned itself out by now, with a run like this.

Maybe one of the reasons that there are so many ww2 titles is because of its target subject, at its simplest level its black and white – good versus evil. Some people could disagree with the Vietnam war, some could disagree with the war in Iraq but I doubt anyone could disagree with people uniting against the Nazis. It was also one of the few times that so many courtiers fought side by side.

But I do agree that maybe another theatre should get a chance but as long as they sell I don’t see anyone taking a chance on something new, there was that ww1 game (the name escapes me) that had the premise that the war in the trenches was still going on into the 1960’s, its just a shame it was a bit bland as it was an interesting idea.

WWII is a huge draw and american seller. Is it any surprise that movies with that theme are doing so well, why not make it into a game. Coupled with the "we saved your ass in world war 2" mentality americans have, it's no surprise of the surplus of WWII themed games.

Sweeping generalizations of Americans for the win!

Personally I couldn't care less about the reality of the theme or the fact that is based on WWII. It is an atmosphere of a war torn environment, the sounds, the sights of the destruction and the feeling that you are fighting against odds. That is what CoD does so well.

actually what they do just as well (or better) is Multiplayer online, which has as much to do with WWII as Halo. It is just very well executed, balanced, fun, fast, furious and edge of your seat exciting.

That pic looks sick by the way, really a step up from CoD2.
