1.25 GB?

Are all demos that big? Sounds like the harddrive will be used up fairly quickly with a few demos of that size...

This one is huge. The others are way smaller.

I guess the amount of textures has something to do with that...

Nifty these "hard drive" things these days, they allow you to place stuff on them and, can you believe it, remove them as well. In times gone by I'd have thought "Never in my day"...

Not being snotty at all - cos if anyone appreciates "freebies" its me! - but having never been on Live what sort of connection you get? Just wandering how long, typically, it'd take to download 1.2GB?

I'm envisioning starting it in the morning and by the time I got back from work I got something to unwind too.

Ever heard of demoplayers?

Slider, the demos' tend to take around 15-20 minutes to download. The PGR3 demo will probably be in the region of 25 minutes +. The downloads are great as are the games on Market place, but the only downside is you can't do anything whilst the download is taking place. i have no idea why this is.

I make it something like 1 and a half hours at 2 Megabit (1250000 bytes/200 kb/s/60/60). I know often when downloading things the speed limitation is the server and not my connection though. Presumably the servers are fast enough to supply as fast as your connection can go?

Cool, thanks. Either way (Pugger or Shifty) it's manageable I'd say. The difference being either making myself a cuppa or popping to the shops.
I know 360's power down if they're gonna overheat but downloading (if as in my earlier scenario: someone leaving it whilst out) wouldn't present a problem.
Which makes me wonder if MS will ever upgrade the 360's capabilities to compare to the stated KK/Sony goals of "always on"... (yeah, I know lots of plans never come to fruition!).

Hmm, maybe I should take my thoughts over to XBD's battle for the living room thread.

I've read somewhere that the Dash had an option to do downloads in the background, but it was delayed (to a future version) because they didn't have enough time to test it.

We'll see I guess.

My general experience has been that my download speeds on Live Marketplace have consistently been among the fastest I've seen downloading any content from the web on my cable modem (1.5mbps connection).

Even a little faster i think on 2mbit.

At least for the last demo I downloaded of Live, it averaged around 400KB/sec on my 10Mbps connection.

It's pretty good. I'm worried how well it will scale with 10million+ users, especially when they start selling the downloadable musics videos & tv episodes.

lving in belgium, i couldnt download this demo... it took forever and kicked me out a few times out of live (and live was also very slow... )

I have just 512kB of download speed, so downloading this would take hours.
typically I would set my xbox to start downloading whne I go to sleep and I would wake up to find the download interrupted at like 62 % or something like that. I would then proceed to resume the download and get to work, later when I got home the download would be finished.

Of course I won't download this because I already have the full version.

Been playing the demo a little, but don't really fancy the driving mechanics too much. Powerslides seem very hard to do, and the few times I succeed I almost always start to wobble in a positive feedback thingy coming out of the turn and end up with my nose smack against one of the sidewalls.

Any tips?

I've been driving the Porsche by the way.

well powerslides should be extremely easy to do in PGR, just be aggressive, try and turn real early so you just cut across the corner, but not so early that you smack the wall.

Sounds like you are just turning too late.
