Problems connecting Dell 2001FP with PS3

Orbitech

Well I bought a psx3 which for the time being I'm planning on using it with my oldie 2001FP..

I tried to connect it through an HDMI->DVI-D cable, but though the signal seemed to be produced, I couldn't see any picture.. Is this because my monitor is not HDCP?

The only way I made it work was through AV cable to composite in my monitor.. But the picture sucks and it limits it to max 576p..

Now I need to now

1.Is there any way I can connect it through DVI in my screen?
2.What max resolution does the composite limits me in my monitor? My monitor's max is 1600x1200..But am I limited to 576p?
3.What's the best way to connect my PS3 to my monitor, which supports dvi,d-sub,composite and s-video?

Thanks

Mmm...it seems that your monitor is not HDCP compatible.

In that case the only way i know atm to connect a ps3 with your monitor (without losses of signal and visual quality ) is to buy an analog-digital video converter....but they costs more than few bucks actually.

But maybe i'm wrong....and if i am, surely someone other will come to tell you the solution.

Actually it IS possible to go from HDMI directly into DVI on a "non HDCP compliant" monitor....

It's really hard to find, but in my opinion it does wonders.

I personally had to ask someone to order it in Taiwan and ship it over to me

It's called the the Gamestation GS-201A made by Hanwell...

I'm using it to display my PS3 on a Dell 2405 FPW, and as most know it, it is NOT HDCP compliant. It's working perfectly for me.

I would put a picture up, but it seems like too much work.

However, a site DID do a review of it, and they liked it very much. They also have tons of pictures to prove that it's doable. You just have to be able to read chinese to understand the review :p

Anyway, good luck finding it....

My Samsung 244t is HDCP compliant, but I'm still unable to get an image over HDMI/DVI from my PS3. This is the second PS3 I've tried with it. I had to send my first in for replacement as the HDMI port stopped working properly after a couple weeks.

Yeah, a friend of mine is using something similar ... works great he says!

I myself just got a Samsung SyncMaster 225SW, 22" 1680x1050, and it works great. Simple HDMI cable plus one HDMI to DVI-D connector. I don't need it right now, as we're using the screen for PC and the LCD in the living room holds the PS3, but it's great to have a backup for when I need to do some extended sessions or get that second PS3. ;) And testing 1080p stuff of course, which it accepts and then scales automatically to its native resolution wonderfully. I posted a picture in another thread somewhere ...

Well I was lucky and found the YPbPr to RGBHV VGA Box from a friend that didn't need it anymore for only 30 euros.. Now I'm ok with 720p.. But it makes the colors significantly darker and the scaling is the worst I've seen with my monitor.. It is nevertheless not comparable with the composite cable as it is easily understood.. Just not anywhere near the IQ of XBOX360 vga cable in the same monitor @720p..

Anyway Strange,Arwin that's very good news.. I saw this cable on PS3 forums, and I'd imagine that it would be the perfect solution for non HDCP monitors...

So guys if you can help me out and ask where can I supply myself with one (since you already own one and you obviously know where to look or ask) I'd greatly appreciate it..

Iron Tiger , that's odd.. I'm guessing it supports 1:1 mapping right?

You will need to find some way of buying it from Taiwan....
last time I checked, none of them ship overseas.
