"Primetime TV losing out to PS2"

Not really.

The real threat to prime time TV is cable and web. PSX2 hardly counts at all.

Is there any limit to your omnipresent knowledge?

As opposed to you, I'd be inclined to believe this as I've never seen less than 25K people logged on during primetime hours in SocomII.

...

Believe what you must, but gaming is not a prime activity during 8~11 PM. Most are flipping through cable or on the web.

Tell that to the constant 30,000 people playing SOCOMII alone on PS2. I'm guessing that if there wasn't a PS2 - they'd be watching TV. Brilliant deduction, I know.

..

30K isn't a lot. We are talking about several tens of millions of people flipping through cable and surfing the net.

  • 30K is alot for a single FPS game.
  • That's 30K from a specific demographic, perhaps you should read the article.
  • Those 30K used to watch TV, they don't anymore. Think about it.

I sure as hell stopped watching prime time crap quite some time ago, to game more.

The last prime time show I watched "religiously" was Star Trek: Voyager.

The is most likely just PR. I wouldn't say online gaming is taking away from primetime network TV watching. It could be from people who don't usually watch TV during those hours. Anyway, I'd imagine more people are playing PC games online than PS2 games, how come there aren't many or any reports of PC gaming taking away from primetime TV?

Certainly there are people who prefer gaming to TV-watching--no matter what the gaming form. Would they lose some audience potentially? Sure. Will they be remotely threatened...? Hells no. People are playing computer games, card games, board games, or whatever between those hours, as it's "active time."

Seems like a rather pointless statement to make.

maybe because if you are playing game on PC you are not hogging the TV and someone can still watch.

Sigh...

Vince ON a thursday night friends alone has 16-20 million viewers watching it. That is just 1 sitcom .

There are many others at the same time on the networks . They all bring in at least 6 million viewers .

As for those 30k who used to watch tv but don't anymore is simply not true .

As we speak I am watching tv. When i play ultima online . I have my tv on and I am watching tv .

There can be many people who are watching tv and playing games .

Before you say but they are using their tv. I know many people who have two tvs in teh same room for just that reason.
