Software Design Engineer (JWH16)
----------------------------------------

Software engineering position working within a small team implementing hardware drivers for D3D, DirectDraw and other components in Windows XP and Windows Vista (Longhorn) environments. This will bring you into contact with current and future generations of 3D hardware targeted at mobile windows computing.

Responsibilities
Design and develop 3D device driver code and related system software
Work with the other teams to make the whole product successful
Documentation of design

Required
1-2 years commercial software development experience or an excellent graduate with relevent knowledge
Excellent C programming skills
Software engineer with a background in low level driver writing
A good view of systems architecture issues
'Can do' attitude, self starter and hard working

Advantages
Familiarity with Windows XP and/or Windows Vista environments
Direct experience of LDDM architecture

An understanding of 3D, especially at the system level - data flow etc.
Experience with hardware would be useful

An understanding or history with 2D graphics
x86 assembly language programming

This sounds like they are working on a chip for the new ultra mobile PC form factor.

With a powerful 3D Chip UMPC could be an interesting game platform. Something like a high end Nintendo DS. IMHO the first manufacture that builds a WOW able UMPC could get rich.
 
If they're just hiring for this now, it's too late.

Might this not be a sign that the current person they had doing this up and left, and thus we know they're in a much worse state now... ?

Just looking at it from something other than the drooltastic tease-factor that it is.
 
There's more than just one person doing this type of job. They probably just needed one or two more people.
