Ozy: Aye, I would be thinking the same thing.

Th' P4 2.53GHz was the best bang for the buck when I got it (after Canterwood came out and before 800MHz-bus processors) but only a month later the faster P4 2.4GHz/800bus CPU was out for the same price. D'oh? Yeah, d'oh. :)

I intend on upgrading my CPU though, probably something around the 3.5-4.0GHz range. That'll come over a year from now.

BTW, this is what I currently have for games.

Aren't you a little concerned about burn-in? I hear that plasmas are pretty bad in that regard.

they used to say that about projectiom tvs and i never had a problem on my dads 80 in tv. So why should i hae it now. Besides i have a 3 year warrenty from best buy and burn in is covered.

Thought the problem with Plasma was the gas escaping or something after a few years.

not sure i've had mine only since sept. I hope not .

Supposedly plasma's will have shorter lives than other display technologies. They haven't been around long enough to really test this, or so I heard.

LCDs and DLPs should have the longest life. As long as you're not banging them around. A bulb/backlight replace is all that's necessary AFAIK.

Wow, that must have cost serious bank on such an expensive set! I got that warranty on my WEGA, but haven't bothered using it. For my LCD I'm not even going to bother. Sony has a pretty good warranty anyways.

Well seeing as someone else resurrected this thread already, I guess I'll chip in.

I have a 50" Panasonic plasma as my main display, hooked up via DVI to a Lumagen VisionHDP scaler. My PS2 (my main gaming machine at the moment) is connected via component to the scaler, and my DVD player (Denon 2900) is modded to provide SDI input to the scaler - so for DVDs I have a pure digital path all the way from the decoder to the screen...

The PS3, likely my next main gaming machine, will probably be hooked up to the scaler via HDMI/DVI, as both scaler and screen can deal with HDCP over DVI. If they screw up the output somehow it'll be relegated to the bedroom until I replace the TV, which I'm not in any hurry to do. I refuse to use component for HD.

My HTPC (a passively cooled Hush, one of my favourite things ever) is connected directly to the screen over VGA.

All the audio is currently handled by my aging Sony DB925 amp, and everything is hooked to it via digital connections. The amp drives floor-standing Kefs at the front (and center, though non-floor-standing, obviously) and some old Mordaunt-Short book-shelf speakers as rears. (ooh - almost forgot my REL Strata-III sub... which is currently not connected as the amp is playing up a bit).

Can you tell I'm not a fan of analog?

I use a Philips Pronto (TSU7000) to control everything, including some custom functions I control using the HTPC - for example the display doesn't have discrete IR functions for some operations, but does have RS232, so I get the PC to drive it through some software I wrote... also I'm in the middle of wiring up a custom ambient lighting rig... am I boring everyone yet? :)

Oh, for the main bedroom I have a mini-rig consisting of a Samsung 26" LCD (thanks Microsoft!) hooked up to a Mac Mini, my old Sony 7700 DVD player and my GC...

All my PC stuff is in the other bedroom, but I rarely game on the PC and it's probably not up to running much. Last thing I played was HL2, and that was before I replaced the Athlon server machine with a PentiumM based thing with Intel graphics... I'd probably be better off gaming on my laptop, and that's only an X600... Also, the spare bedroom is actually full of random old computers (SGI, Sun, Next, various Amigas...) so it's a bit cramped for comfort.

Ok, I'm done :)

What are the Paradigm monitor 7s like?
I was tempted to get some monitor 7s (or 9s? can't remember), but I ended up getting a 5.1 set of energy connoisseur speakers for less :) (end of line, other reasons).
I'm really happy with the energy speakers. Amazing sound for the size of the drivers.

Nothing that great.

Xbox360

27" recently purchased Syntax Olivia LCD HDTV (got it for $550 out the door after rebate from a brick and mortar, 649+tax=700 out of pocket-$150 mail in rebate, not bad). I could have gotten a better deal on the net, but I'd much rather walk out with it from a brick and mortar. Syntax's by the way are good qaulity for the price, much like Westinghouse, happy with mine.

I dont have the space to have a ton of consoles hooked up, besides that I usually dont see the point, just more mess. Until recently I had a Xbox and Dreamcast, saw no point in keeping either, sold the Xbox threw the DC in the trash (sure somebody will comment on this LOL, but they aren't fetching enough on ebay to be worth the trouble.)

I only game so much anyway, I dont have time to do all I want on the 360 alone, between trying to play through games I already own, trying to get time in on the various XBLA titles, not too even mention the demos constantly popping up on Live, no point in adding more to the mix is my opinion. And I try to go for the best experience, and most of the time that's going to be on my 360.

I do crave a SNES and or Genesis though for some retro gaming. Will get one of those one of these days, they go for twenty bucks at the local used games shop. I would much rather spend qaulity time retro gaming on a SNES than a DC, that's my opinion.

The setup rocks. I love the clarity of these speakers. The bass doesn't drag on and in quiet scenes there is no hissing from any of the speakers(which I hate). Even cranked up the speakers, sub nor the amp showed any weakness and preserved these qualities while a lot of other setups I've heard simply lose quality as they go up in volume, where one aspect generally pulls ahead of the others. The dialouge is very clear regardless the amount of action or other back ground noises in the scene. When Toshiba releases firmware 2.0 to enable TrueHD 5.1, it should sound even better, not sure how at this point! but it should.
