Possible Gran Turismo 4 rival?

Well any game that can rival GT3 or GT4 is gonna make me all warm and fussy..

But having played and tried pretty much countless contenders i haven't found anything yet.

The GT series is a giant that is close to impossible to beat, it is build upon experience gathered over 3+ games and 10+ years(?)

I still remember that fight from the replay like "yesterday", me in a 787B with a setup that wasn't perfect and on tires that would fade to quickly (to some extent because of the dirty driving during the fight) and "him" in a faster and better car but another pitstop strategy..

Well it's not 10 years yet, but yeah, they do have lots of resouces *cough*Sony's wallet*cough*, so they can afford to release when the hell they want since money is a non-issue, they can afford to invest millions on making the game as realistic as possible on PS2 at least, both in visuals and gameplay, and ultimately they know that whatever they do, the game will sell more than the Bible.
I guess that's why Sony wants to keep them nice and warm with a thick layer of CASH... ;)
In the end, if that's what it takes to make the best racing game in the world, then i'm happy Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are pretty big companies who are not worried about investing sizeable chunks of money for one single project.

And a big userbase plus million sales helps as well :)

Like Lazy8s once said, it's like the chicken or the egg. What came first...?

How did GT sell so many copies? Because of Sony's support? Or did Sony's support come after they saw how much GT had sold? ;)

Is it purely a money issue? Or is it a combination of that and crap like Need For Speed U. that is what the market demands (though that's for the pc) that limits the creation of more games like GT? I always thought that people were more interested in crap racers, but hopefully I'm wrong.

3 screen setup = old ... GT3 already did it.

I didn't post the pic because it's something new. I posted it because this game deserves that kind of setup to bring out it's simulation capabilities ;)

Oh and yeah F355 Challenge (used by factory Ferrari drivers for training) did it long before GT3. As a matter of fact SEGA is KNOWN for their pioneering efforts in triple screen arcade games. Ever played Airline Pilots? ;)

And speaking of a real simulator look below.

Sega and the traffic education service are together making the "SEGA DRIVING SIMULATOR" which is being developed for Japanese driving schools.
The simulator has been a joint effort between Sega, Japanese driving schools and the government.
Designing the machine they have taken car to take into account all the needs of the driving schools, who have been giving feedback to them, including the need for correct feedback from the machine.
Up until now the force feedback has just not been good enough to learn to drive outside of a car, but with Sega's new technology they can accuratly reproduce feedback through the wheel and machine to simulate every instance, including ABS working, skidding and general driving conditions.

Ninja Warriors from taito also had a 3 screen setup...

(J/K) :D

Yes it did, but the nature of that game made it pretty much useless. So far simulators make better use of the extra screens more than other types of games.

Why did they blow up the images? stretching them like that without filtering them only makes the jaggies even bigger!!

Still, no, sorry, not a GT rival by miles.

GT3 was the first console game to feature 3 screen setup ;)

Actually DC was capable of a 3 screen setup, problem was SEGA didn't release any 3 screen games for home only two screen games ;)

F355 was a N1/DC game. ;)

Technically, I guess even PSOne was capable of 3 screen setup :)
Edit: I correct, 2 screen setup. As if I remember correct, only 2 consoles could be linked together.

Were there any 3 screen games for System 11/12?

Did the home console have a link cable that allowed a 2 screen setup?

If PS1 can satisfy both of those requirements then a 3 screen console hookup is possible. Otherwise it's really grasping at straws.
