finally ;-)
You really think Polyphony cannot program AI? Or should you point at the machine and be amazed at what they have accomplished and sacrifices they had to make.

doh, i'm readily among the first to give credit where credit is due, and polyphony do set the pace, and a fast one it is, in various aspects in this industry, but gosh, AI is not one of them. and if you'll be pointing at the machine then check out toca3 - that's how cars AI should behave, all 20 of them on the track.

Well I suppose I pretty much agree with the last poster. Whenever I am playing GT I cannot help but wonder what these games could have been with a bit more emphasis on your opponents' AI.

I haven't seen a racing game of theirs yet that compares to the AI in the first 2 Geoff Crammond Grand Prix games, which ran on 486 machines.

No matter how you spin it the main point is whats left over is not enough for truly proper AI and please stop with the grandprix comparison.

Do you have any argument to support your point? I mean, grandprix was running nicely on an Amiga..

OK, how about we compare it to Colin McRae 2.0, Nascar Heat 2002, or GT Legends, which all ran on the same or lower spec systems as Gran Turismo 3?

I don't buy the story that it wasn't possible, other racing games had no trouble pulling off good AI, it just wasn't done.

RF, so far the handful of posts I've read of yours make me glad I don't read the Console section often. I hope this doesn't sound too critical, because I've done this before, too. You're talking to a lot of relatively knowledgeable people here. Why not just give them credit where credit is due, on subjects you clearly don't know that much about?

Ill say this then Im done here. I dont know what you mean by knowledgeable people here. Im sure I know what you referring so let me be blunt. We are on a message board and me saying something to you can be taken two ways. True or False.
Whatever dullard bag you put people in I would advise you to stop. Also my debate over granturismo is not about what an Amiga pushed to what a PS2 pushed. What similarities are we bringing up here? An engine that stresses the very machine to the point where only 6 cars can be shown on screen or an engine that does not come close to what polyphony has but has made sacrifices in other areas to balance out performace and this would be AI. I have a very hard time believing the devs at Polyphony have no grasp at all of AI routines. Now before you put another fake smiley up please input your knowledge of PS2 functions or anyone else in this thread as to why Ployphony is lacking in this area. No one can because no one has personally has a sit down with Kazunori san. So what we have are other games to rely on that are totally different o what Polyphony offer as a 'whole package'. Thanks for your concern but Ill stick with my feelings for polyphony.
