Play FMV files on a PC?

I'm doing a project where I'd like to convert a FMV file from the Two Towers Playstation 2 game to an MPEG2 compliant stream so I can burn it onto a DVD. Does anyone know how to do this?

I've searched the internet, but found no solution. Just changing the file extension to .mpg does allow me to play the file in Ulead Media Studio, but there is obviously something wrong because many frames are out of order resulting in flickering during playback. Also, there is no sound during playback.

If I don't find a solution I'll just digitized the video with a capture card or DV camera, but I'd prefer to skip the analog step.

Thanks.

PS2 games normally use PSS streaming format, which is interleaving standard MPEG2 bitstream with a sound stream in a platform proprietary way.

Short of reverse engineering the format or stealing the docs for it somewhere, I'm afraid you're stuck with the analog way.

Now that's a surprise. Didn't know there was a publicly available PSS player for PC already :p

Edit: well it doesn't do sound yet though.

Check this one for far more detail on PSS

I had created my own FF-X/FF-XI/FF-X-2 movies DVD using the tools there..

PSS Demux can demux the PSS streams, PSS is indeed just interleaved MPEG-2 streams with ADPCM encoded audio.

edit: added audio format

edit1: in case you can't read the readme (as it is in Japanese), after running PSS demux, just drag a file to it and it will demux the streams.

Thanks for the links guys. Unfortunately neither program worked with the FMV files from The Two Towers game. I also found another program called PSS Plex.

PSS Plex didn't work either, but it was last updated in 2001 so I guess that isn't a surprise considering The Two Towers is a late 2002 game.

Not sure about the movies from Two Towers, as I have sold my copy long ago.

The tools I linked to had worked well with PSS files extracted from FF-X and FF-X2, and those copied from Shin Sangomusou series, Zero and Ape Escape 2.
