Phil Harrison: PS3 shortages, fast ramp

The inevitable X360 redux:

In an intimate lunch with a small selection of guests, Sony's Phil Harrison today conceded that not everyone who wants a PlayStation 3 will be able to get one at launch.

Harrison said, "You can see from our history that Sony Computer Entertainment has been very effective matching consumer demands with supply. But some consumers will be disappointed -- that is an inevitability of a hardware launch. But, in terms of our manufacturing, we have a faster ramp-up than we've ever had before."

Ummm... and this is news how? I hate to post something like this, but this quote is so stupidly obvious that it never even needed to be said...

I don't think so, it's just Sony is stating they are throwing lots of resources to meet the incredible demand that the PS3 will have. This is reassuring to us, who are interested in getting the console.

I'll concede the reports of a faster ramp-up are encouraging, but do you really expect them to say otherwise? I just don't find anything in this bit of "news" to be... well... newsworthy.

Over the years i found that common sense is really not that common.
