That make me want a HDD in PS3 too...
I`d only want a HD so devs can use them for swapping. Futere games are gonna be expensive in terms of Textures( all those shaders need input and I doubt procedural shaders will be used often ).
But in that case +256 or +512 MB >>>>> any HD. Why force a HD upon anyone if half of the ppl dont have a use for it and dont want a fragile additional heating and noiseing component ? Dollars saved on the right spot IMHO.
I'd take a built in hard drive over a Blueray drive any day of the week. And for $100 cheaper? No contest.
X360 is a Tivo out of the box. Besides that, every developer is deving for the system with a hard drive in mind, the same can't be said for the PS3. Hell the PS3 does even ship with a memory chip large enough to stream to. That means that for those who do end up buying an memory card large enough that 'could' be used to cache to, no games will utilize it since it isnt out of the box standard.
There is a reason Obvlivion was canned for the PS3. PS3 might be next gen to some, but to me it isnt even up to Xbox standards with no HD out of the box.
No HD out of the box is a huge mistake. Next gen is all about downloading levels and mods. Hell Oblivion for X360 will offer mods. And custom soundtracks for every game. I can play Oblivion with the soundtrack to LOTR, or even Morrowind. I'm glad MS is forcing a HD on me.
