PC Gaming is not dead - Razer bringing something big?

while I laughed...

I don't think they are doing anything significant in any way for or against it. The configurable/modifiable key panel is actually pretty cool, they just need to get it on something that a gamer would buy.

Yeah, ironically they have an awesome product that could make them money, its just not this, its that key panel tech, sell it as a keyboard/controller, I'd buy it.

a mobile quad core only works with dynamic underclocking, good enough for your photoshop and video processing but not the greatest thing to do with a game.

Some games are starting to prefer quad-core processors over raw Gigahertz.

Although the quad-core Core i7 2820QM will TurboBoost to 3.4Ghz compared to the 3.5Ghz of the Core i7 2640M found in the Razer Blade. The Core i7 2820QM also has an 8 MB cache compared to the 4 MB of the Core i7 2640M.

You would be hard pressed to find a single benchmark that would prefer the 2640M.

Saw this on Reddit yesterday, seems applicable. ;)

I love how they threw in a 360 and a PS3.

$2,800 is absurd for a laptop. The market for "gaming laptops" is so miniscule because of that exact reason. The ability to play on something viable enough to run most modern games, would wind up costing almost, or more, than just buying a desktop. I honestly can't even imagine a scenario where I'd prefer a laptop over a desktop, while gaming. I'd rather bust my ass carrying my upwards of 35 pound case to a friend's house and actually enjoy myself.

it's good if you have money to burn and don't want to buy all that crap pictured above.

what's also true is people do game a lot on laptops, though it's on the geforce 6100, Intel graphics, geforce 8400GS and similar hardware.

it's made more for mindshare that marketshare. a flagship product as a gtx 580 is.
in a less distorted way, people will never get a macbook pro or air, or a 27" IMac, but they do get an ipod or a subsidized iphone.

Nice. The quality of my diet has been on a steady decline since college. Had a chili cheeseburger with chile cheese fries for lunch today. It was delicious :yep2:

Lots of people don't want to research and source all the various components they need to build a full PC, and especially not, screw and plug them all together. Nor do they want to have to faff with warranty stuff on an individual component level.

That said, I'm pretty sure a pre-built gaming laptop isn't worth $2.8k to most people though... Add the need for a significant tech support structure and I don't really see how this will make Razer any money. Oh well. I wish them luck in their venture regardless. :p

My Macbook can run a decent incarnation of WoW or Portal 2. You'll notice the textures look a bit bland compared to a more equipped computer with 1+ GB of video memory, and the framerate isn't too hot either, but it works well enough to be playable so why complain.

There are plenty of nice gaming notebooks to be had from $700 to well under $2k. Really anything with a discrete GPU of decent capability because almost any CPU gets the job done. This Razer notebook is just ridiculous sensational nonsense.

Have fun trying to figure out which mobile GPUs don't suck and where they fit in comparatively, though. ;) I am infinitely thankful for Notebookcheck.net

So they made a high-cost, high-end gaming PC without any high-end gaming components?

I recon the concept is nice, but the whole "PC Gaming" speech just backstabbed them with the poor choice of components..

Besides, how long will it take between this comes out and Trinity notebooks start shipping? 8 months max? Bad timing too...

Can we make some more fun of its battery life? I'm trying to guess how many minutes of intense gaming action you could get without it being plugged in...

If you find the wattages for the touchscreen, oled buttons, lcd-led-screen and the other accesories inside, sure. We already know how much about the CPU & GPU eat.

Given the weakness of the components it should be better on power than a legitimate gaming laptop. But still, life will be measured in minutes not hours when gaming.

Seeing how that Art Lebdev Optimus Keyboard was $1500, I don't find $2800 too much for a keyboard with programmable buttons and touch display, no?

They try to sell lots of things for too much money. This is one of them. The keyboard touchpad thing is a neat concept, but if they can't make it affordable, perhaps they shouldn't make it at all.
