Overclockers get to test R520?

i am hoping for r520.... that would finally give more info about it.....
SLIed 850's isnt that exciting.....

Somehow I doubt they gonna have Dual cards to play with. With two cascades .. one for the CPU and one for the GPU they gonna be one short for a second GPU.

They can use their own tools .. as far as I know the guys have had to ship their stuff to ATI and ATI will take it to the comp. for them.

UPDATE on Dallas Event!!

Look what I got from one of the folks at ATI.
I have no clue whats going on there now.

OPP
-------------------
Oh one other thing, I am kind of concerned with the direction the thread is taking...everyone thinks we're going to be doing a big reveal of some sort. That's most likely not going to happen. They might see a motherboard that they haven't seen before but that's about it. I am hoping that all three of you will work together to beat any existing records as opposed to it being a competition. I understand each of you have different techniques and there will always be some friendly rivarlry.

so nothing new in graphic land

"a big reveal"?? Interesting that graphics marketing terminology is taking on Hollywood (director-speak in this case) terminology.

Funny.. I seem to remember seeing those basic specs and one of the "secret" ones revealed by democoder posted here weeks ago by someone.. hmm.. who was it again? oh yeah.. and a vaguely leading question someone made about Blending..

Oh well..

I cant remember ;)

I think the big reveal will be their new Express 200 mobo, designed for extreme overclockability. They have a big thread at xtremesystems, and if they put out a mobo with even half the features people are talking about, it's going to be incredible. The dev samples of the Bullhead mobo, which is the reference design for the 200, were very impressive for a simple 4 layer PCB. If they took the design to the limit, it would just be insane. That's what I think will be the big reveal, not graphics cards.

Still it'll be a great show, and I hope it's videotaped so I can watch it.

i agree

it looks like it's gonna be overclockers (wet) dream

some more clarification:

Just to clarify on the Dallas event so that everyone knows what's going to happen, as there seems to be some confusion.

There will be atleast three different stations, one for Fugger, one for Macci and one for OPP. Each will be overclocking using their preferred technique. The planned platform will be an RS480 with X850XT PE. The planned board will be Bullhead.

I see people cheering for their favorites and that's okay, but I want to make it clear to everyone that this is a friendly gathering amongst friends and peers and should be labelled more as a demonstration and not really a competition. I am hoping that there will be collaboration amongst the three as opposed to pure competition. We want this to be a learning experience for everyone as much as we want people to have a good time.

I also see a lot of people posting that we might be revealing some new discrete graphics cards at this event. As I mentioned above, everyone will be using X850XT PEs at this event.

Having said all that, don't take this as meaning there aren't many exciting things happening. That's simply not true. If you come to the event, you'll probably hear about (or maybe even see) some things that are not currently known.

You forgot some features that a confidential source told me:

16x stochastic FSAA
FP32 blending, texturing
Programmable Primitive Processor/Tesselator
oh, and a bridge in Manhattan

Congradulations both of you you made to Anand's front page as breaking news. Except for the bridge in manhatan of course. http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.aspx?i=23807

how come no one is talking about trueform ? They have a new version for it , I belive trueform HD is the offical name

:) phenix .. it does seem that way hey. ;)

Oh well .. since it's said that they won't be showing the R520 in Dallas and that the 200 is gonna be shown .. has anyone got the specs of what the 200 can do??

I am starting to believe that B3D forums to have a sizeable impact on technology sites. Democoder obviously made a joke about that rumour you posted and three days later it was posted on Anand's site as a news item. :D

In that case you have to wonder about some reading skills :devilish:

Yes .. they left out the Manhattan Bridge comment. ;)

j/k PatrickL .. before you go loco.

Anyways .. you guys see .. OPPainter hit 8706.

Fek .. he is amazing. Wish I had half his o/c talent. And Macci apparently hit 7.2 GHz in his 3.4GHz EE Intel CPU.

Amazing shit.

You mean it was posted as a speculation not as a news item. Well, still it is funny since it is stated that this can hint what we might expect from R520.
Especially knowing that it was originated as an overclocker's fantasies about his next graphic card and a casual joke about it.

it was FUGGER who hit 7.2ghz

Just curious, how many ALUs does the X800XT have? The ages old Xenon leak, if real, said the R500 had 48 I believe.

Depends on how you count them.

X800 XT is four quads (each quad have four pipelines) each pipe has a full Vec3 + Scalar and a mini Vec3 + Scalar. For a more detailed description look at Daves great R420 review :

lol they wont even get close to breaking the 3dmark record with an xtpe. not unless they can crack 1100 mhz.....wtf were they thinking?
