Overclockers get to test R520?

yes, the forums and mods were my main focal point, however every time u read a review on nvnews and they do compare to radeon cards they either stack the deck for nvidia or make up these insane excuses as to why the radeon won the benchmark. or they make some retarded comment like "THE GT EVEN COMES WITHIN 15 FRAMES OF THE XTPE!!!!!~!~!~!~" or "THE GT EVEN MATCHES OR BEATS THE XTPE IN DOOM 3, WHAT GREAT HARDWARE." but when it comes to half life 2, "the gt even does great in a game geared towards ati hardware". they cant ever write any straight articles. even their news posts are slanted, its such a joke.

IIRC, DriverHeaven was originally started by Rage3D members to report on and release leaked ATI drivers. I also seem to recall an instance where NVidia refused to talk to them due to apparant bias toward ATI.

*shrugs* Make of that what you will.

<sigh>

DH was originally started as a support site for Omegadriver and Cyborg driver sets, period.

True dat, but regardless of what you think of the place you gotta admit they've done pretty alright for themselves.

Hell, even when we just opened the place had something on the ball...that don't happen a lot with new websites.

NVNews was pretty good, they would post what seemed like decent articles and do some cool investigative pieces. There was a time when they even did some nV vs. ATI reviews that seemed to be fact based and without much subjectivity. I posted on their forums on a fairly regular basis and thought that a lot of the guys there were pretty cool. There was a time when I even considered helping them out in the same way I help out at Rage3D.

Unfortunately, something happened right around the time of the FX 5800 fiasco. Seemingly overnight, the site went from a decent place to visit to something that seems to be not much more than an extension of nVidia's marketing machine. It's been all downhill since then, which is really unfortunate.

I think MikeC is a good guy and maybe he has his reasons for steering the site the way he has, but in my opinion, there's not much reason to go there unless you're a dyed-in-the-wool nVidia fan-boy looking for similar company.

DriverHeaven is slanted, that's obvious even to the most casual observer, but the guys run it very well and they are obviously motivated enough to keep up the pace.

Yes, I recognize the apparent hypocrisy

I'd also add that DH bends over backwards to be more family friendly and helpful than most sites I've been to.

It's not for everybody, but for those who like it they love it.

Me neither, benn a long time since. But Billy has a new site called Gaminggroove.com, though it's not like it used to be.

I used to read VE everyday too, it was a pretty cool place. Witty and relaxed. I can't even remember what happened to it now.

IGN bought them out, then myself and everyone I knew stopped reading it...
