Overclockers get to test R520?

I bet it's just a double-card (AMR) system.

How else do you spend $6000 on a system (All American seems to be sponsoring a $6000 prize):

http://www.aacdirect.com/customkititems.asp?CartId=14127844-EVEREST-MPRQH19&ic=WATERAMD&tpc=

I managed to spec up a $5000 system, so another $1000 for an extra card plus waterblock and odds and ends should hit $6000.

Sounds like a fun event (and I'm too lazy to overclock, hahaha). I think it's prolly focussed on ATI mobos and AMR.

You really think they would use waterblocks?
Talk about LN2 or dualcascades and you're closer to truth ;)

How many 3dm05 marks is the world record currently?
Search the ORB for a "GeForce 6800 series GPU"

Highest on there with approved drivers is about 12k (didn't check for unapproved).

LOL, you aren't paying attention. This is a prize system being given away, sponsored by All American Computers. The system is watercooled. I can imagine the $6000 prize is a dual graphics card, all water-cooled, PC.

ATI has already taken delivery of the CPU phase change cooling system. Soon they'll have the GPU phase change system. It seems those two components are at the heart of the main competition which is to set the 3DMk05 record. It's unclear if competitors can use their own components. They might only be able to use their own tools.

The AAC water-cooled PC prize may or may not be the main prize. To be honest I can't imagine the world's best OC'ers would want a water-cooled PC as a prize, so somehow I think the prize for the main competition is a brace of X850XTPEs and an AMR mobo. Easier to carry on to the plane home :)

Read the ATI page:

lol, I don't care about the video cards. I'm interested in seeing their 3 stage cascades in action, giving those chips some -130C lovin!! btw, 4 of the cascades will all be build by PCIce, who you can find at xtremesystems also. OPPAINTER uses 2 PCIce cascades, and ATI uses another two which they will be giving to Macci from the looks of it. I hope they get some LN2 as well that would be cool, but the cascades are better (temp is more stable and longer lasting then LN2).

I see they achieved 82xx 3dmarks with a ~800mhz x800XTPE and if the record is really around 12000 they have to use a multicard system or possible next gen card to beat the highscore. I don't think a single x850XTPE is gonna cut it even if they can OC it over 900mhz which i doubt.

Anyway i'm sure they gonna have fun there

One thing to keep in mind is that ATI may still not have their own solution for SLI. They could be using that from Alienware or VIA.

Why, oh why do people keep saying "SLI this" and "SLI that"
SLI is NOT synonym for every method to run two or more cards/chips together

Somehow I suspect that will be the crux of ATI's marketing.

Because everybody understands what it means and it's shorter than saying "multi-chip solution" or "multi-board solution." I'm sure ATI will come up with their own acronym if/when they release their own version of SLI.

Chalnoth, I understand that, but I'd suspect, at least on these forums, that if you say AMR people know what it means, same with the VIA & Alienware names which I can't remember

I have no idea what AMR is (off the tope of my head), and I don't remember the VIA and Alienware names for their respective solutions.

Uh. . .anyone see ATI letting overclockers start performing the dark arts on multiple R520s right now? If they have some, how many could they have at this point? Enuf to run considerable risk of meltdowns on some? This seems like a vanishingly-small possibility to me.

Why not could be a good PR thing if it's done right. Not only one r520 but 2 :D or they have a super special board where they can put 4 cards in it  ;)

I just don't see it. If they have dual OC'ed R520's there it will be because they brought a specially tuned system from their own labs and no uncouth hands will be allowed to touch them.

How many good gpu's from a typical "sampling"? Unless you think they are ramping already, which I sure don't. 15? 50? "Well, boys let's see if we can burn a few up figuring out where the limits are! Screw the driver team and the partners!"

How about they get the guys(o/c's) to show their stuff and at the end of the day the get the winner. (I say OPPainter is gonna win)

Then after everyone is satisfied, ATI bring out a PC that's sealed, no ICE cooling or anything else, and they run the tests. And this box beats the living crap outta everything else. (15000+ score, just guessing of course)
Now they have a New World Record.

Of course the Box is sealed so no one can see what's inside .. they can only speculate. ;)

That one I could see. Quick, somebody ask Worm if there have been any rush-job ATI driver submissions lately. :D
