I need your help on choosing rpgs for my ps2 i just got.
Id like to know what you feel are the best rpgs out for it.
Which is the best looking, has the best story, controls, and which do you feel is the overall best rpg?

thanks,

i've just got my (used) PS2 a few days ago with 2 RPGs: Shadow Heart (came with the PS2) and Final Fantasy X.

I really like FFX (and i havent ever played a FF game before).

Even though it has a lot of problems, Xenosaga is the best RPG I've played on the Ps2. Of course, I haven't played Unlimited SaGa yet :devilish:

The general consensus on Unlimited SaGa is "stay the hell away" so you're not missing much, Ozy. ;)

Kingdom Hearts is great too.. camera is a bit irritating, but its an excellent 'mature' action/adv RPG, despite the disney license.

Great RPGs? Well..

Suikoden III
FFX (the best one IMO)
Xenosaga
KH
Arc the Lad IV
Shadow Hearts is a solid RPG from what I hear too.

Tough call, probably FF X. Great frame rate and artwork. Kingdom Hearts is great in a cartoony way as well. Xenosaga was alright, but I didn't like the over-the-top anime/resin figure character design. Fact that 90% of the game was in mpeg2 didn't help either :p

I don't think the cut seens were mpeg2...the ending and starting cg were for sure but throughout the game I'm pretty sure all the cut seens were real time in game graphics, with a few added effects like depth of field. IMO FFX (9.4/10) is the best RPG out there for PS2, Xenosaga (9.0/10)is a close second. I own siukoden 3 as well but I didn't really like it (6.8/10). Graphics I would probly say Xenosaga is the best, then FFX. Suikoden looks more like N64... And I don't know why so many ppl were complaining about the long amount of cutsceens in saga, I mean It wasn't too long, easily within the range of most rpgs IMO. Xenogears for PS1 has at least twice the amount and it didn't get bashed for it :p

seconded, I would only suggest avoiding it if you realkly can't stand looong cutscenes.

They're engine produced graphics/cutscenes, but encoded in mpeg2 to make the loadtimes quicker. Look at the blacks, you can clearly see compression artifacts. This is why they needed a DVD9 ;)

FFX is like a 40 hour Metal Gear Solid 2.......the production values are phenomenal and it can be very hard to put the game down. One of the finest japenese style RPGs every made despite its linearity through most of the game and I've played my fair share of RPGs ranging from 8 bit gen till now.

Dark Cloud 2 is also a fantastic game. There is a lot of stuff you can do in the game, so that's another game I'd recommend. Then there's Wild Arms 3 and Suikoden 3. There's at least one RPG you'll throoughly enjoy.

Thanks for all the responses. Do you people also feel that FFX has the best story?

thanks

By far yeah. Kingdom Hearts has an excellent story too, very dark and mature (which is a nice contrast to the Disney license).
