Once, twice, thrice... ?

Why is it ever singularised? It's maths, not math. You do some maths, you don't do a math.
I do math, just like I do English and History and Biology and Physiology and Anatomy. Not Englishes, Histories, Biologies, Physiologies, Chemistries, Anatomies, etc.

OTOH, I might do some Economics or Social Studies or Statistics or Physics, so there seem to be precedents both ways. :)
 
Actually I might do physique, économie, électronique and almost anything else (including informatique). but we seem to have an expection : "les mathématiques" (and probabilités, statistiques but it's still maths).
 
If you look at lim(x->0+ ; 0^x), it's not so clear cut anymore.

But 0^0 is often defined to 1 because it's often the most usefull value at that point.
 
in Latin there are no such words I believe.....

in German it would be "ein mal", "zwei mal"....
