Did you know NVIDIA GPUs are the graphics of choice for Half Life users? In a recent Valve Software survey, data captured from 35,488 Half Life user machines showed 67% of graphics were NVIDIA. Visit www.nvidia.com for information about the ultimate graphics for gaming.

EDIT:

I didn't mean for this to seem anti-nvidia. I have a GF3. This just struck me as really eerie. Will ATI buy nvidia? :p

I know, I know. But check this out:

nVidia buys out 3dfx.. becomes HL1's graphics card of choice.. posts this fact on 3dfx.com

next:

ATI buys out nVidia.. becomes HL2's graphics card of choice.. posts this fact on nVidia.com?

Heh...:D ATi doesn't need to buy out nVidia for HL2, don't ya' know...

Don't worry about how others may construe your opinions...look at me, I've got a GF2, a GF3, and a GF4...along with V5.5K & a V3, a V2, a TNT, and lots of other stuff, all crammed together in one of my spare parts drawers....

I think one of the cardinal errors nVidia made when it bought 3dfx was not to continue supporting the current cards with drivers and updates...at least for a year or two after the sale. nVidia missed a golden opportunity to generate some good will among the hordes of active 3dfx users at the time, who would have looked on such an activity with favor (translating to cash and good will for nVidia later on.) I know I would have thought well of it had the company done so...

As it is, I'm guessing there are still a lot people who preferred 3dfx's products at the time who still harbor a bit of ire over nVidia's conduct in those days...

Well.. I dunno that nVidia's claim about HL1 was only possible because of 3dfx tech either. :p

I know what you are saying about 3dfx drivers. I had a V5 at the time and I passed down my older voodoo cards to my younger brothers. A V3 and a diamond manufactured banshee. Some support from nVidia would have generated respect from me as a consumer. I used wickedGL for a bit and eventually made the switch to nVidia.

And now Im making the switch back to ATI (jeez.. its been years). My 9800pro should be here soon!

I'm certainly enjoying mine...:) (Which is why it isn't in my parts drawer...)

Ditto!

I am still pissed at them for that!

Totally in agreement here .. When games started to be flaky on my v5 , , i COULD have bought an nvidia card , but frankly , no f**king way........... so i used a kryo2 for a while till the radeon r300's became nice and cheap...

yep, if nvidia had been 'nice' maybe i'd have looked on it differntly...... Funny coz can't you give 'goodwill' a value? It probably would actually have looked 'good' on the balance sheets...

not many games have issues, it just seems to be EA ones......

i understand them not supporting 3dfx hardware. i did not expect them to do so, and i dont think they had much of a reason.

the thing that got myself and other x3dfxers pissed off is the way they treated us when we were looking for information. we inquired about the 3dfx source code (if they wuold release it or not) and every time you emailed them, you would get a different answer. they would say "we are not allowed to release that information", "the drivers still belong to 3dfx, ask them", and "we will not be releaseing drivers". some of these pr guys we talked to (brian burke in particular) got pretty nasty in their emails.

i understand them not offering support for warrenties, or making new drivers, but they couldve at least let the x3dfx team make more than 2 sets of drivers. they wanted us to just upgrade as soon as possible, so they made it hard for us to get info on the drivers and who they belonged to.

it was just the ways the pr people acted towards us that really pissed me off about nvidia.

I understand it, too--they didn't want to spend any money supporting 3dfx products, even though they had just purchased the company down to and including even the 3dfx name. Your comments only add to and underscore their attitude toward the customers of the company they had just bought. Instead of entertaining the fantasy that people with 3dfx cards at the time were going to immediately dispose of them and run out and buy nVidia products, they should have seen an opportunity to add on some good will from those customers instead of treating them like they didn't exist. nVidia was as arrogant then as now, only now it's all much closer to the surface and a lot more visible.
