Nvidia GT200b rumours and speculation thread

The frequency and pricing of GeForce GTX295 are unknown yet. Judging from the above specifications, it isn’t dual-GPU GTX260 or dual-GPU GTX280. Anyway, it’s obvious that GeForce GTX295 is about to regain its performance dominance.

;)

and be the first default three slot card in existence...?
Why are the stream processors the same as the gtx280 but is the buswidth cut? and only a 50w increase in power usage with two cpu's and 70% more memory?

VR-Zone scored the first photo of the upcoming GeForce GTX 295 card slated for launch over at CES 2009. The GeForce GTX 295 is based on the sandwich design again like the 9800GX2 with two 55nm GT200 GPUs. As you can see, there are 2 DVI and 1 Display Port. As for the power connectors, it uses 8+6 pins so that gives you a clue how much power this card needs. The pricing is yet to be disclosed but card makers are speculating that Nvidia will price it competitively against AMD 4870X2 card this time.

I think this is the real deal. The memory layout is exactly the same as the Zotac's GTX260^2 PCB pic.

Great so now AMD is bumped out of the fastest card slot too. Just like that.

The downside to the no hi end strategy..

They still have the plusses of probably winning a lot on cost, though.

Just like that? It took NV half a year... that's hardly what I would call "just like that".

Is it really sure that this card is going to be faster than 4870 X2?
I mean, maybe they were forced to clock it down a bit?

Its bound to be. It would be a marketing disaster if NV were to release this after all this time and it still end up slower.

I doubt it will be significantly faster though. Likely performing somewhere between a GTX260 216sp SLI setup and a GTX280 SLI setup.

There isn't such an urgency to cater for ultra-high-end niche products when most users steer clear of dual-GPU cards anyway, especially with the current world economic downturn holding back consumers.
They didn't even hesitate when they needed to lower prices on the single-GPU, much higher volume cards, in order to compete with ATI.
I mean, at 450~550 dollars a pop, it's a lot of money for something as deeply driver-dependent and with inconsistent practical benefits as a dual-GPU monster.

*nudge*Those are 240SPs GPUs each instead of those rumored 216SPs*nudge*

Maybe they chose to go with more SPs and not go for the clock bumps?

As much as you'd like us to believe this, Nvidia didnt like losing the crown even for a sec. Thats how they roll.

AMD can still fight strong against this with a price drop, and maybe even with a refreshed dual GPU card. Who cares if Nvidia is 5% faster if you can buy a similar product for significantly less money.

How do you know Nvidia can't do the same ? They have deeper pockets than AMD right now.

To what extent Nvidia will be able to solve the bigger die problem, I wonder. My guess is that, GT200b or whatever this is will still turn out to be bigger than AMDs GPU. So, AMD can chose to fight the price war at the high end too. They would still have the upper hand because of the die size advantage.

On the other hand, 2GB of high speed GDDR5 RAM isn't cheap...

I was wondering if ATI's only response to Nvidia GF-GTX 295 is to enable side port tech in drivers to compete with Nvidia's X2....
