Nvidia GeForce RTX 40x0 rumors and speculation

Strange tweets. First application for HW-Raytracing was reflections in BF5. Never seen before reflections. Control put it on another level eight months later. Metro Exodus uses HW-RT for GI which put voxel GI to the rest. No clue what these "other techniques reaching similar results" are, but maybe someone will invent them...

if you read the article it sounds more like a 3090 and less like a 3090ti

n 3DMark Speed Way, the RTX 4080 12GB got a graphics score of 5,382 points, performing similarly to an RTX 3090. However, on 3DMark Time Spy Extreme, the GPU was on the same level as an RTX 3090 Ti, scoring 10,794 points. Lastly, on 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra, the RTX 4080 12GB got 13,042 points, putting it between the RTX 3090 and the 3090 Ti.

i'd wait for it to get rebranded and pushed out the door.

It depends on the effect. There isn’t a good fallback option for RT reflections but other stuff (diffuse GI, AO, shadows) have reasonable alternatives. There’s no practical alternative to RTXDI but that’s not ready for prime time either.

The voting results in that poll are pretty telling there. A fairly even split fo all price points below $1000 and then a sharp drop for price points above.

Seems there is indeed a psychological barrier to prices over $1K unless it's a halo card.

Anyway, sucks to be an early adopter.

Isn't that the same price they originally planned to launch it at under the 4080 moniker?

Yep. A full $300 increase from the 3070 Ti. Nvidia seems to be overplaying their hand here. Maybe there are still lots of 3080s sitting on shelves.
