Consider this a polite warning - nonsense posts on the B3D boards will not be tolerated; if you don't understand something or really don't have any correct information, then don't post. Silly things like above will just incite attacks from other users or at the very least, plenty of "rolling eyes".

Ouch, poor Nvidia. They must pay to Nintendo for talking about Cube Mapping in one of their GPU Gems.

I think he's talking about the Nintendo patent that's come up on these forums quite a few times. The one about using pre-rendered backdrops as if they are real time levels using some kind of cube mapping technology.

Not to be a butthole or anything here, but you got a few things rather mixed up there. No, it's not called cube mapping, and it doesn't quite do what you think it does. Nintendo has a patent on doing rendering with pre-rendered graphics and cube mapping, but there are limitations with their technique regarding viewing angles, shadows, lighting etc. It's not as good as actually being able to render that graphics realtime, or even anywhere near it.

Also, cube mapping in of itself is not a nintendo patent, it's been used in PC realtime hardware since the original geforce 256 which launched in 98 I believe, and it may have been implemented in professional hardware - and certainly in software renderers - LONG before then.

Yikes! I never saw that render but it looks nothing like Link in any way, shape, or form. Glad these were proven fake.

    I agree wholeheartedly V3.
