Many thanks as always for NPD's continued support.

On the hardware front, the Wii continues to slaughter the competition, while the PS3 appears to get a pre-MGS bump? Or did the 360 underperform?

From the software side, it's all GTA, Mario Kart Wii, & Wii Fit, with Wii Fit obviously being supply constrained.

As I mentioned last month - all those who said GTAIV would push May's numbers instead of April's were kidding themselves. It's been proven time and time again on both the 360 and PS3 than the launch month for a game - even in the last week of the month - is the time when games push hardware... not the lag into the following month.

Pretty low numbers for both 360 and PS3, with Nintendo continuing to ride into the sunset in both the handheld and console numbers. We bow down to our new overlords once more

A simple guess would be... most people who wanted it already have the system.

The real question is... what game will be the one to actually move systems in crazy numbers then? MGS4, Gears 2, FFXIII? Or Wii Dancing or whatever is next?

It's kind of weird that it sets the mark for most entertainment dollars in a single week or something and it doesn't seem to move hardware. It did sell very nicely. 2.3 million copies in May is impressive. Total sales of 5.15 million so far.

Well you do need to consider that last month was both SSBB and Mario Kart. The real note here is that Wii Fit isn't selling more Wii's than both of those games combined - but it's pretty close.

It's not that they aren't selling them, GTA4 is stopping the free fall.

It will definitely see an increase, but probably more because of the walmart promotion than anything else.

$100 from Walmart, with Best Buy price matching + the release of easily the biggest PS3, the unit needs to move!

Wii is starting to dominate USA software charts instead of 360. So now they look like the rest of the worlds charts.
