NPD January 2003

Magnum,

i'm not blowing anything out of proportion, you may see things differently, but what I mentioned above is actually happening. It's been happening for well over a year, and frankly I'm sick of it. I'd get attacked by people like misfit or ngamer or whoever the most recent list of fanboys are.

I know I have a personal preference and like Xbox, but how does that mean there's a hidden meaning in each one of my posts, or that I somehow would want to lie just make gamecube look bad? I have no interest in doing that, and some of these fans have trouble dealing with reality. I've been accused of all sorts of BS by both teasy and a number of others from the past & present, and I'm sick of it!

you seem not bothered at all by chap, why are you bothered so much by teasy ?
Well I guess this shows you have a short memory, since I've tried to tell chap to relax and stop posting the fanboyish topics a number of times. He was doing it for the gamecube before (which I don't recall YOU having a problem with back then), and now he's doing it for Xbox. Do I like it? No, but is he looking for a hidden negative GC comments in every post I make like some of the others around here?? No. Quite different IMO.

Several things I noticed from the charts. First of all EA is king of the world right now. They can do nothing wrong. It seems everything they touch turns to gold. They are kicking major ass on the PS2. Sony needs to thank God everynight for EA's support. Also EA is doing well on the other platforms too.

......not to contradict, but EA do everything wrong! .....the only thing is that no one seems to care and everyone buys their games anyway!......its a mighty strange world!
Seriously though, how do EA manage to rerelease the same old trash (with the odd exception)every 6 months and still have it sell by the bucket load? Do people actually still buy the latest FIFA title expecting it to be significantly better than the last?

chap, what do you mean "Nintendo better not let thier fans down again" ? I'm a Nintendo fan and I'm not "let down" by them. And I dont know anyone who is let down by them as far as what we have all bought the GCN for..which is great games pure and simple. Yeah thier obtuse with online gaming but that's really just not important to alot of us Nintendo fans. I've been through with PC online gaming for a long time now. I dont know anyone who has bought a GCN that has'nt been happy with it. Great 1st party software (as expected) lots of 3rd party offerings (multiplatform) and several 2nd party games that have and are sure to be great. I'm perfectly content.

The only area I'm "let down" in if any, is Ninty's secrecy and lack of promotion. But that only bothers the likes of me..a hardcore zealot.

If anything, EA should thank $ony. Why else do you think EA kisses their arse all the time? It'd be interesting to see if they buy up VC to replace 989(as rumored) despite EA's sports dominance on their console...

marconelly!:
Heh, if anyone should be thanking God for EA support it's MS and Nintendo...
...and we've all seen how major factor they can be in a console's success.
Nope. Dreamcast managed to sell just as well as GameCube and Xbox without any EA support whatsoever (EA even went as far as stating that it would be detrimental to them if DC started attaining more success.) So, there's no evidence pointing to EA's support on secondary consoles like Xbox and GameCube being any kind of a significant factor in their relative success.

EA and PlayStation benefit one another. Beyond that, it's arguable.
EA would do just fine (almost as good as they are doing now might I say) on PS2 alone,
EA would probably be just fine on PS2 alone, but they would definitely not be the juggernaut they are today. They don't do multiplatform for kicks - it's absolutely integral to the empire they've built and run. Harry Potter and Madden across like fifty different platforms including PC (yeah, don't forget how much they make in the PC market) and GameBoy Advance, spreading licenses to all available outlets... it's those kinds of things that allows EA to buy expensive licenses and spread brands across multiple platforms and multiple versions, with Xbox and GameCube doing their part to chip in nice bonuses and dilute the risk.

Dreamcast was an excelent choice as a console. No wonder it sold well. However, all those millions of potential buyers who could have picked DC for the next best version of Madden, decided to wait for PS2 instead. They had no other choice. Sure, DC sold fine, but Sega had to go through the hoops to make it sell even as good as it did. (It's whole other thing that MS can go through such hoops and don't care much about it). Presence of such huge franchises as EA had would probably help Dreamcast sell even better than it did, even without free game tie-ins and such.

I understand your point Marconelly, but I'm not sure it's ever been shown that support from a major third party to a secondary console has ever really made much of a difference. If the console is secondary to start with, it's already been marginalized, and token support from a big third-party doesn't seem to have much effect.

Is Square's Final Fantasy: CC going to change GameCube's situation much?

Did Dreamcast getting Resident Evil: Code Veronica have much of an effect?

Did Konami's support of ports from big franchises (Slient Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance) do that much for Xbox? Or has Halo pretty much driven and carried sales of the console?

Sure, these things never hurt, but big third parties usually drive success on the primary platform to the only significant degree. The degrees they help secondary platforms are usually small, especially compared to the exclusive games that secondary consoles have been using to differentiate themselves (Halo, Zelda, Mario, Splinter Cell).

Heh, I'm a member from way back on PSX2Central, I'm Inteq there. Haven't posted in a long while on there though, the forums kind of died.

hehe i love everyone saying how great xbox did this jaunary and how gamecube was out sold 2:1 by it. Heh to bad they practicly sold the xbox for a 100 bucks a system . Or am i the only one here that notices that . Oh its even better today I got the system for 50 bucks brand new from best buy . Yup . Got the bundle package and obi wan for free. Nice huh 3 50$ titles and a system. Works out to 50$ that way. I hope they can sell them at that price. Now we just need to see how well the nintendo deal will work. 150$ for the system and a game.

Well, yes they do. And I see your point - but unfortunately for your argument in this case, the latest FIFA title is actually significantly better than the last! :p

Yeah the newest FIFA game was deffinately a big improvement over the last one. But its still really flawed and utter tripe in comparison to PES/WE. Its even quite poor compared to the old ISS games on N64 IMO (not the new ISS games though as they're pretty crappy :)).
