NPD December 2007

Thanks for your fast answer!

So at this point I'm no longer sure nintendo will ever catch up with MS!

That was the one million dollars bet some years ago MS consistantly leader in US

Hmm, I would asume in a year or so Wii will overtake 360. They are supply constrained of course, but I think in a lot of the "slow" months they can go +200k on 360.

Just look at the 2007 numbers NPD gave us. Wii=6.29m, 360=4.62m.

But this doesn't take into account factors that could change such as if Wii demand slows, 360 price drop etc. But right now it looks solid for Wii. But still, maintaining a USA lead for ~2 years out of a ~5 year generation in USA wouldn't be too bad for 360.

I doubt it gets near Halo 3, at least not anytime soon.
how do you figure? according to NPD annual numbers, Halo 3 is at 4.82 in the US alone and CoD4 is at 3.04 for the 360 alone. in Europe, PS3 is selling at least as good as the 360, so CoD4 sales are very strong for both systems. factor in the PC sales, and i think they will be very close (i take back the "comfortable lead" comment).

Mass Effect (Xbox 360) 401,000
Mario Party DS (DS) 385,700
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (Wii) 147,600
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (DS) 117,200
Half-Life 2: The Orange Box (PS3) 56,500
Nights: Journey of Dreams (Wii) 60,800
TimeShift (PS3) 25,000

I have to agree with him. If there were 2 million Wiis on retail shelves last year they would be very close to Microsoft in in total sales. People still seem to be hunting for Wiis.

lol at HL2 sales. I really wanna see Uncharted sales now!

I want to see Uncharted numbers also, but my feeling is that since its launch, the title has sold fairly well actually.

"Sony's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3) also smashed expectations, selling 206,000 units, well ahead of the market's expectation of 139,900 units."

From Sonycowboy :) Good numbers!

Accessories

Finally, NPD showed that game accessories were up 37% to $621.6 million. Said Frazier, "All those hardware sales greatly helped the accessories category to realize a 52% increase over last years' sales. The Wii remote and the Wii Nunchuk combined for over 8.5 million in units sales last year, capturing the top two spots in accessories sales."

"A lot of folks are curious about the performance of the HD-DVD add-on from Microsoft," she said. "Life-to-date, 316K units of that accessory have been sold, representing a 3.5% attach rate to hardware sales."

LOL, well - I was actually thinking they might even be better! But we'll settle for ~200k then.

Wii Play just makes sense to buy; I recommend it to anyone I know that gets the Wii, as it gives you an extra Wii-mote and an extra however-many-games for a nominal $10 more than the Wii-mote alone would cost.

The wii and 360 both got hurt by shortages the Wii was hit the hardest. The ps3 had a terrible x-mass. Price cut,3 AAA exclusives and a new model and it did not even come close to the 360 last season. Even worse than the hardware 0 titles in the top 10. The PS3 is slowly becoming the PSP of the consoles games don't sell. If ND is smart uncharted 2 will be multiplatform so they can get the sales they deserve. The NDS is just amazing it just crushed everything in site. The Wii/DS are money printing machines for nintendo. The 360 is software beast for 3rd parties. I wonder how epic feels now about making UT3 a PS3 exclusive.

Heh, good numbers indeed. Now let's see how long it can sustain its momentum. In fact, pretty good numbers for a down economy. :)
