July 1, 2005 - One of the big unanswered questions about Xbox 360 regards Microsoft's plans for current generation peripherals. While one look at the Xbox 360's beautiful dedicated controller (known in some circles as Type Sex) will make you swear off the Type S forever, it's conceivable that gamers have built up a collection of Xbox controllers that they'd like to continue using on the next generation system. So will Microsoft provide the chance?

Hehe he said type sex . Anyway I dunno if its a big deal. I could mabye see someone coming out with a usb attachment . The controllers are pretty diffrent with the placment of the buttons which could really hinder players in newer games

I don't think 3rd party company would have a hard time releasing a Xbox-to-USB adapter. But I do agree with their statement. There are really little reasons why you would like to play with the Xbox controller (360 and Xbox games). But I hope Sony has a different take if they decided to go ahead with the Boomerang Shock controller. Save us Logitech.

BTW, the only big change with the 360 controller (button placement, excluding select and start), is the black and white button are now converted to L1 and R2. So I wouldn't worry about gamers getting hinder. Heck, if I know how to mod a controller easilly, I would've put those black and white button on top.

Well if sony does thats a crap load of extra ports or that is exactly what 4 of those 6 usb ports are for haha

I think thats why the x360 wont have support for the xbox controllers . wires would make hte front ugly

How's about a USB multitap - 4 DS2 controllers on one USB. Up to 24 players per console  :p
lol a screen split into 24 squares !!!! Or two screens split into 12 squares haha . Yea i see that happening :)

Doesnt necessarily have to be split screen, imagine a soccer (football) game where every single player (including goalies if necessary) were played using a human player on both teams!

Yes that would be a crowded little room!

PC telling a funny joke with no anti-sony barbs in it at all... What is the world coming to?

Anyway, I sure hope nobody gets upset if xb controllers don't work on x360, moving the black/white buttons to a shoulder button position would really screw with some games if you play it with a type S or god forbid original (aka: type huge) controller.

New console - new controllers. It's always been this way. Nothing to get panties in a bind over.

They already have them. Heck, I just poped open the plug and sodered on an old USB cable from a junk mouse so I can use my my xbox controlers for PC games. Granted, opensorce drivers are avalable for that, hard to say if the spftware interface for 360 controlers would work for Xbox controlers wired to USB.

Would be interesting play XB360 on a cinema

given that the Xbox controller is supposed to be a powered usb connection. The extra power used for powering the memorycard sockets. Wouldn't it be possible to have a dual pronged usb connector, like exists on some pocket-harddrives, that can be attached at the breakaway point?

I'd really like to see my Tekki/Steel Battalion controller be utilized in the future, or at least available for backwards compatibility.
