No HDMI on PS3 Slim

Is it a known fault for PS3 Slim's to sometimes break down and the only sympton being that HDMI video doesnt work?

Tried two different working HDMI cables.... get some audio but the video handshake doesn't happen even though it is attempted.

Tried a different TV too and same issue.

Anyone have any experience on this matter?

Maybe try a shorter cable?

On my blu ray player, I bought a cheap HDMI cable from monoprice, that is 3ft, then I bought a 6 foot one from newegg. Long story shirt the 6ft one wont connect with that player, but the 3ft one works.

Maybe it's the cheap cables, despite that everybody claims there's no difference.

Really sad all the HDMI issues around. Ridiculous.

There are quality differences between cables. I just heard about a project where they had to swap all hdmi cables due to them not being good enough. What I was told was that the TV's just did not like the original cables, due to having a small window allowed for deviation from the spec. And the original cables used, had a "high" signal loss.

The company delivering the solution felt the pain, since it was 3K cables and the better quality cables that worked, had a decent markup from the ones originally quoted.

Tried two different HDMI cables, one was 1m long but a no-name quality one and the other a Belkin packaged cable 2m long.

Will have to try more cables. Doing this for my bro who got a very good deal on a PS3. No PS3 fun for me I am afraid.

HDMI cables do one of 3 things: work, work but with clearly degraded video (some to many pixels displaying junk data) and not work.

Degraded video over HDMI is because the cable's wire is not thick enough for the signal being sent along it's length, price does not really play a part in if the cable is good enough.

Just make sure that if you buy a cable that it claims on the box that it can do the res you want it to (because then if it does not work you can just return it).

I think that's just HDMI being a pain, my 4850 HDMI to my TV HDMI sometimes does that too, got sound no video or the other way around sometimes, video no sound. Good thing the 4850 has DVI to VGA, which I used to reboot my PC if that happens. It's rare in my case but it does happens from time to times. Yours seems worse, maybe the PS3 connection got damaged or something ? Those connectors is rather fragile and very sensitive too.
