As Eronarn already pointed out they are available immediately for $399 online. That's all that really matters.

I can't believe the 9800 XT hasn't lowered to around $300 by now. Maybe they will once the X800s are available in mass quantities.

What I don't get is that ATI (as in, on ATI's own pricelist at it's own website) is still charging $499 for the 9800 XT 256, and the 9800 Pro 256 is only $299. Somone must really want that extra 5-10% performance to pay $200 more.

No, it's just that since it has a big "X" in it the card sounds all sexy so people will buy it.

Remember, people are SHEEEEEEEEEEP!

It really depends on the generation. I think a lot more people would feel justified spending $500 on an X800XT or a 6800U than they would have on a 5950 or a 9800XT, and rightly so. Despite that I expect ATi and Nvidia sold quite a number of those small performance boost cards.
But at the same time, the $300 cards also look excellent. I do, however, think ATI's charging way too much for the 12-pipe X800 Pro ($500 last I checked).

Where do you check?

ATI charged $450 for their "special edition" Pro (with t-shirt, mouse-pad, etc.)

The card MSRPs for $399...

heck you can pre-order the XT PE for I believe $450 from CompUSA...($499 plus a $50 rebate using some promotional code...)

You are asking where the 500$ comes from, and you are one of the most present people over hre. The information comes from here, B3D, you should know about that. Sure, Chalnoth mustn't stay at first information, but well, you know him.

Perhaps, but you can be both. The information could come from B3D you know ;)

I honestly don't know what you're trying to say....

Core Clock Speed MAX
Memory Clock Speed MAX
Oh, that's EXXXTREME alright.
And why settle for an ASUS suitcase or a Gainward watercooling setup, when you can have the eVGA Timbury Fan Sticker!!!

You know compusa by me still has x800pros out . Most of the others have sold out though as they have only gotten 1 or 2 in.

There is a diffrence between not being able to keep up with demand and not having anything out on the market .

Ati is guilty of the first and nvidia guilty of the second.

Btw when is the 40 days up ?

I think it was 45 days and not 40. The paper launch of the 6800 was on April 14th. Today is EXACTLY 45 days from the paper launch date and still none to be had. It would seem to me that Jen's single molex comment may be causing some delay?? Or was it another FUD paper launch by NVDA to counter R420? I would expect similar problems as they roll out PCIe as well given their recent track record. OEM's will be going with what they can get their hands on quickest, in volume and with the right power consumption/size specs.

I wonder who that might favor? The 9600 rollout from ATI was slow as well. I hope this x800 rollout speeds up this next week or two. I want to walk into Best Buy and see stacks of them for sale.

Weren't there 10 6800U cards sold in Japan last week? What more do you want?

It would appear both ATi and nV meant shipping, not availability, when they quoted their dates. And the 6800U and 6800 are supposed to have been shipping for a few days now, so nV would appear to be technically on target. Heck, they'd be ahead of schedule if they're actually shipping $300 6800s.
