Nintendo Technology

Hmm, hopefully they will do this. I've been getting bored with the current news, and some sort of "breakthrough" will let me have more interesting things to read about.

Ok here's the newest rumour on this.

The new technology Nintendo will announce is a revolutionary way to communicate between potentially unlimited amounts of GameCube's (each in seperate homes) with no need for any sort of ISP, phone line, broadband connection ect.

Apparently GameCubes will somehow communicate with each other without the need for anything but the adapter with this new tech. Allowing you to play everyone in your area and potentially accross an entire country depending on how many users are connected at the time.

I have no idea how possible this is myself. It does sound far fetched, but at least its an interesting and somewhat possible rumour this time (unlike that Zelda/Rare rumour).

Teasy: That sounds incredibly far-fetched.. but if it happened we'd finally know two things:

A. What the infamous "Megaton" is..

B. Why Nintendo has been so slow to deliver online games the way that Sony and MS have.

Of course, I'd say that such a technology appearing on GCN in 2003 is 99.5% unlikely.. so..

Yep I agree, it deffinately sounds far fetched. But also deffinately interesting and worth a mention, especially in this thread.

This post is not aimed at Teasy in any way, shape, or form

[Clueless fanchild mode] OMG! Nintendo has harnessed teh Quntum Entanglement!!

Miramoto has just bent over every physicist and philosopher since the birth of the human civilization and descided that GameCube is the future of our race. Go buy one now!! And, while your at it, kill a satanic Playstation user for Jesus. [/mode]

Why did I spend countless years assimilating knowledge, reading books onn this very subject, when the Gamecube was right in front of me?!?

Perecentage chance of this being true - 0.003%
Percentage chance of this being created by an idiot Nintendo worshipper still mad that he got burned on the last "Megaton" - 99.997%

why is it far fetched, not saying I believe its true, but its not so hard to believe, my dad is a tech for Ntelos, right now they are testing out cheap wireless devices for his laptop that put pretty much any broadband solution to shame, right now its mainly for laptops on the go.. but you never know.

Vince, I really hope that little sarastic tirade wasn't aimed at me, if so please read my post again.

If not I'd rather you didn't quote me in a way that makes it look like I'm stating a fact rather then reporting a rumour. Its hard to believe but there are some people in this forum that will just read that quote in your post and attack me for it.

You're going to cover the entire country based on a p2p wireless networking fabric - Um, alrighty then. How many hops is that from San Fran to New York? hehe...

No, of course not. I'll post a correction, sorry bud.

Wow, that one's out there :D

First reason off the top of my head why it couldn't be true (despite breaking the laws of physics and such), is that it'd canabalize the current modem/BBA market (what there is of it).

Wheee, bring on the next!

Ah, I didn't think so, just making sure :)

BTW its an incredible coinsidence that you mentioned the word "bud". Because just as I read your post I also (simultaneously) started drinking a pint of bud!

So then it would be possible to have this on a more local basis? If so how local?.. and remember we're talking about a bit of a step above what is currently being done (within the context of this rumour anyway). In other words, what would you say isn't totally out of the question regarding this rumour? Everyone in a large neighborhood connected together?.. everyone in a city?

As cool as that would be I very much doubt it. Although, it certainly isn't impossible, I could see some sort of wireless thing on a small scale.

Oh, I should add that if there is any shred of reality in this rumour, it'd ONLY be in Japan.. home of the crazy-high-tech-cell-phone.

The chances of this rumor being true are far far less than NOJ losing the rights to Zelda imo.

After all, this technology is better than what Ericcson, Nokia, Qualcomm Motorola, Phillips, et al use for cell phones? Ok. I love the part how it doesn't require an ISP so basically the bandwidth is FREE! Hahaha.

But hey, I'd love to be surprised!

Ty: If this Nintendo technology announcement happens..

I'd say that Sony's networked processors idea for PS3 and other appliances would become a lot more believable as well.

I read the first part of Teasy's post and I was hoping he was joking

Even after his disclaimer about admitting it was far-fetched,

What more can I say
