They did die shrink and update the Switch's SoC. It wouldn't be surprising if they are at least exploring the options on that front. Timeline would match up better.

Switch 2 update with a revised SoC, display (OLED) and other changes.

There was also that Switch Pro rumor for quite some time. It wouldn't be surprising if they are exploring along that avenue as well with the Switch 2.

When a hypothetical switch 3 is released, i18A will be at least 8 years old, so the rumor is plausible.

If Nintendo's allergy to the latest Nvidia architecture holds true, then we also only need to wait three years to know what feature set and performance per watt Switch 3 will have.
