Nintendo: For the Win

Well, FiringSquad certainly seems to have planted their flag:

Disclaimer: I am not a Nintendo fan.

Nintendo is poised for a coup. As someone who not so long ago was dismissive of what the company can accomplish, I today firmly believe that they’re capable of taking the #1 position from Sony. Slumping game sales, unimaginative games, expensive consoles and expensive games, consoles that will have features (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) that we’re not sure we’ll need. In comes Nintendo, with the promise and the tools to let developers create cool games again.

I think Nintendo does have a chance to really take charge this generation BUT, I don't know how they are going to disuade Millions of Playstation fans to not buy the PS3 and go with a Revolution. If anything, I think the Rev will be the second console somone buys after getting a PS3 or an Xbox 360.

I think they play their cards right this time:

* Avoiding head-on competition with the biggies *AND* flank with major/unique/innovative features. The controller is said to hold more secret(s) ? The last time round, they basically ran away from the competitions. Lost in the woods perhaps.

* Low price but not "cheap", to capture lost Sony sales due to rumored high price. Unless Sony decide to low-ball their numbers, the Revolution may pose more danger than XB360.

* Extremely quiet to keep idea(s) new as close to launch as possible. Leave the fight talk to the #1 and #2 guys (for now).

* Of course, 1st party content like Twilight Princess custom for Revolution.

I wonder what they will do for online this time round. I am hopeful.

most of the people i know are getting revolution and either PS3 or XB360. nintendo's back library is usualy the reason given.

I'll. bet a million dollars they are still #3 this round

No High definition support-- This is the death nell for them they are waiving the white flag by this one factor alone

Odd controller-- this isolates 3rd party vendors AGAIN, by making them do extra work to get games working on the console.

Nintentdo is going to be dead last again, no way around it they are seriously snubbing their nose at the direction the industry is going, they are stubborn and will not learn.

Err... How do I get the million dollar if Nintendo ends up higher ?

My personal views are:

* Sony and XB360 are helping Nintendo with HD. One does not need 2 HD players in the living room.

* Yes, it's out-of-the-way to develope for but the odd controller guarantees exclusives over time as long as the gameplay improvement is true. Some developers seem to think so. This is one of the key reasons why I think they may do better than #3. The other being price and presumably ease-of-manufacturing.

* People who value content most will continue to get a Nintendo. This is a vote of confidence to their 1st party games.

Revo will be DOA. Without third party support they won't gain anything next-gen. That is what killed the gc. Now with this new controller that sure will not help things. ;)

Many 3rd party developers are very vocal about support for the Revolution. This support actually materializing is another thing but general 3rd party opinions have been positive. This is definatley going to be different from the cube.

Since rumors have it coming out b/4 PS3 this year. Tons of games should be know that are coming out for it.

From EA to Konami to Ubisoft. Mainly just excitment for the new controler and expressing that the direction Nintendo is going as positive.

Thats why I stated that "If the support actually materializes is another thing". Its vocal support but actual games remain to be seen. Were in the same boat as with the PS3 with the Rev though. Complete secrecy and nothing is really known for sure.

I think all the vocal support is a good sign though.

It still got ports for the GC controller hasn't it?

I don't think so. Looking at the design of the Rev, there are no ports for a GC controller. Also, being able to use the GC controller would probably detract support for the actual remote.

Let's face it. But by the ineptitude of its competitors (and I'm sure Nintendo execs are thanking Microsoft for this one), Revolution is unlikely to ascend the next-gen food chain.

I thought you're supposed to be able to play old Nintendo games on this thing ? :)
Perhaps another adaptor ?

Then what the heck is this?

wow..I guess you can. Not sure if Revolution games will support it though, probably just used for Backward Compatability purposes (for Gamecube games).

I guess what weaksauce has shown proves that BC games (SNES, N64 games) may be using the GC controller. The wireless Revolution remote though doubles as a NES controller.
