Nintendo 3DS leaked

Apparently a chinese guy has smuggled a Nintendo 3DS off a production line. He's posting video's and quite a few pics of the system. Some of the more interesting info from the pics is an initial screen on the system showing 96MB of ram and also a look at the systems battery showing it to be 1300mAh.

Do want.

One analog though? How does that ever make anything playable?

I just remember Dreamcast and N64...both pretty nasty in 3D with only one analog.

96MB RAM, hope the extra 32MB is a permanent upgrade usable for games and not just 64MB for games+ 32MB of extra RAM for other stuff.

Dreamcast and N64 were two of my favourite consoles, I don't remember a single analog being any problem in most games. In a first person shooter I can see lack of two sticks being a slight problem (though I always loved Goldeneye and 3DS does have motion sensors as well).

About the ram, hopefully its a single 128MB chip with 32MB for the OS. However if it is a 64MB chip for gaming and a separate 32MB chip for the OS then that's still better then what we previously thought. Which was 64MB for everything, I'm still hoping for the first option though of course.

It seems crazy that they can get away with 'only' 96 MB of RAM. We have basic smart phones coming out already which have 256 or even 512 MB of RAM!

Yes, but there's no need for an OS as robust as those featured on Smartphones. You also don't need to have multiple apps running simultaneously while the OS is also running.

With the Nintendo 3DS, I'd imagine the OS would be vacated from memory once you started up a game. You can't do that with a smartphone for example.

If anything, I wish this had a couple of shoulder buttons. :D But Nintendo is more interested in keep things simple for the user, I'm still semi-amazed they included an analog nub! :D

Even still, I would have thought it would have been useful for the games to have more absolute memory even if they aren't sharing it.

One GAF member apparently was able to get in the chatroom where it seems to be suggested that the 3DS has 128MB of RAM with 96 MB available for use.

I have 2 preordered at gamestop and my gf preordered one also. I hope it comes in at $250. Not sure if i'd still buy at $300. I might instead of giving one to my nephew sell the second one to pay for the first. My nephew is 2 so he will be fine with my old dsi .

I really wish nintendo would come up with a legal way for me to load as many games as I want to the device. I really hate having to carry a bunch of little carts that way. I lost mariokart because of that and I simply went to buying my games and loading them to an acekard

Maybe they got a little rattled at PSP2 specs...

You'd still be talking 512MB or 1GB on PSP2 vs now, hopefully, 96 on 3DS.

I'm sure 3DS will run at a much lower resolution too, helping some much like it helps the Wii look more competitive.

Im sure though if it really matters they'll come out with a 3DS XL, i, lite, XT edition which has more memory in a couple of years and better specs on the cameras etc.

Has there actually been any solid info on PSP2 specs? I seriously doubt we'll see 1GB of ram.

Hell, I'm willing to bet we won't find out about the 3DS's specs either. It'll just be vague numbers leaked by devs or something. We know the leaked numbers from IGN already wrong about the RAM.

Apple doesnt tell specs either but we still know them. Counting RAM chips not hard...

How does everyone forget the touchscreen? It worked extremely well for shooters on the DS :)

Considering the 3DS will be in the same graphical league as the original Xbox, I think it'll be fine with 96 MB. I highly doubt the 3DS will be bogged down by some kind of heavy background overhead system like the NGP surely will have to deal with. It's even worse for phones I'm sure since like PCs, they will have huge amounts of background data to keep in quick storage.
